Is mega home improvement store trying to make a come back?

  • Aug 13, 2009
I remember when Home Depot first opened in our neighborhood.  I guess that was a long, long time ago.  I thought it was amazing, not that I went there frequently.  But whenever I did go there, I was so impressed by everyone who worked there.  They were efficient, had lots information to enlighten me with and very friendly.

Then came the housing boom.  During last few years, my trips to Home Depot were just miserable.  It took forever to track down someone to help me, and many times those people I tracked down couldn't provide much more information than I already had.  And they were just not happy people.  They looked overworked and gave me guilt trip for taking their time.  I felt like I was at K-Mart or Walmart.  (Yes, I do hate those stores and I will do anything to avoid setting my foot in there.)  I just thought Home Depot got complacent and was going down hill.

Recently, I had to make many trips to Home Depot.  And to my surprise, there was a greeter!  The greeter said hello with a big smile and asked me if I needed help finding anything.  Maybe I am just too easy to please, but I was actually quite happy to see a greeter.  Maybe Home Depot is trying to make a come back.  Maybe they will bring back those staff that knew about home improvement.  Maybe I won't have to run around each aisle looking for help.

Another thing I recently found out that made me happy is their return policy.  Even if you lost your receipt, if you purchased with credit card, they can pull up the purchase and give you and full refund.  Now, why can't all other stores do the same?  We are living in information era, right?

On my spare time, I love to see and experience new things; hence traveling and eating are one of my favorite things to do. I like abstract art (love Mark Rothko's works), classical music, interior design, … more
