Lowe's and Home Depot Free Kids' DIY Workshops

  • Mar 11, 2010
Lowes and Home Depot offer project workshops for kids, often with a seasonal theme, and they're free!

I love the idea of getting kids working with wood and nails, and they'll feel a real sense of accomplishment when they've actually made something with their own hands.

Home Depot's workshops are available at
stores nationwide for kids ages 5 to 12. Their website says that each child also receives a kid-sized orange apron, similar to The Home Depot associates' aprons, and an achievement pin. Details are here at Home Depot's website, where you can also find a store locator and get dates and times for the next workshop.

Lowes requires you to
sign up on the site here with the number attending and which project your child would like to build. They'll show you two different project choices.

Both stores hold their workshops on Saturdays, and these free
workshops are held regularly. If you have kids, check out the websites often and take advantage of the opportunity for your kids to learn some do-it-yourself skills.

It's always great to find more free things to occupy the kids. And, they'll be learning something new and have fun doing it.

I had no idea these workshops were offered. These stores don't advertise them at all. Thanks for filling us in.

About this topic

Home Depot is introducing itself to the next generation of do-it-yourselfers - and bringing their parents into the stores - by offering a monthly educational program for children 6-12 years old.

Conducted by company volunteers, the Home Depot Kids Workshop is a free, hands-on seminar that allows youngsters to complete their own woodworking projects, which come in pre-cut wooden kits and require about 30 minutes to complete, The kits get the children started on such projects as birdhouses, foot stools and tool boxes.
