When I was a little girl, Christmas Eve was a BIG deal in my family and every year, my grandma's BFF would bring her fudge. I couldn't wait to have a piece, it was my second favorite part of the holiday. When she passed a while back, I couldn't get over my fudge addiction over the holidays. The recipe in the Wiki makes the closest thing to Smitty's fudge (I use all milk chocolate chips but, that's because I think it tastes better and I like a sweet fudge. If you don't then, feel free to use dark chocolate or semi-sweet chips):

Each time, I've made this recipe, it comes out the way fudge should- smooth, creamy, delicious. I've put crushed candy canes on top for a more festive look when giving it to people as gifts, but only once I've made sure they like mint! I've also used nuts, peanut butter or white chocolate chips, M&Ms, you name it....
I thought I'd share this with you, my fellow Lunchers, as I start to make my batches for this week. If you have any of those randoms (acquaintances, co-workers, boss, neighbors, host/esses, family get-togethers, etc) still on your list- feel free to bake them this much appreciated and delicious gift.
You can get a candy gift box at CVS for pretty cheap, wrap it in colored Reynolds Wrap and tie a nice ribbon on it or wrap it in parchment paper and then, wrap it in a beautiful, vintage fabric piece, newspapers, magazine, pages from an old book or play, music poster, copies of CD/LP covers, or anything else that has any special meaning for you and the recipient!

Homemade fudge is always a great gift to receive. This stuff is really rich though and is something I can only indulge in once or twice a year.

Me too! But, I do enjoy indulging from time to time and fudge is a great way to do it. It's also a good way, once you've had your fill, to give people a special treat.

Makes 48 Servings
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 2/3 cup evaporated milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 (7 ounce) jar marshmallow creme
- 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 3/4 cup butterscotch chips
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
- Line an 8-inch square dish with foil.
- In a heavy saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, evaporated milk, butter and salt. Bring to a boil and let roll 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in marshmallow creme, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, pecans and vanilla. Continue stirring until marshmallow creme is melted and all ingredients are thoroughly combined. Pour into prepared dish.
- Refrigerate for 2 hours, until firm. Lift from dish, remove foil, and cut into pieces.
Note: You can make any substitutions on the chips or nuts to cater to your own taste! Hope you enjoy!
