My Favorite Fruits

Here is a list of my favorite fruits and why.  Wondering what your preferences might be.  Note that both bananas and pears do not appear here.  I never cared for bananas (though I sure could use the potassium) and pears for some reason never appealed to me.  Here we go.....

The quintessential summer fruit that I enjoy all year long. Nothing like the taste of a sweet juicy strawberry. My #1 by far!
With today's advanced storage techniques and advances in distribution we can enjoy oranges for 7 or 8 months a year. My favorite lunchbox fruit!
Same story as oranges. When I was a kid we only had decent grapefruit available for 3 or 4 months each year. Now you can enjoy it for most of the year. Ruby red is my fave!
This is a fruit that would not have even been on my list ten years ago. But I find myself buying it more and more. I find that buying cantelope is kind of a crap shoot. Hard to tell whether it is ripe or gone by. Nonetheless when you get a good one there is nothing like it. Sweet, juicy and delicious!
Wild Blueberry
Generally regarded as one of the most vitamin rich foods in the world. I love them and should eat more of them. As I am writing this my wife is creating a blueberry dessert to serve this weekend. Can't wait. Lots of ways to enjoy blueberries!
Another great lunchtime favorite. Years ago there were thousands of varieties of apples and the overwhelming majority of them have all but disappeared. Only about 15 varieties remain that are commercially viable. I love hard apples like red delicious and royal gala. My fruit of choice in the fall for sure. Love apple pie and hot apple crisp. I recently discovered that a local creamery makes apple pie ice cream. It instantly became one of my favorites!
When I was a kid eating grapes with seeds was a pain in the butt. Nothing like those seedless green grapes! A great summertime treat at picnics and cookouts. I find that eating grapes is kinda like eating peanuts. Once I start it is difficult to stop!
Another highly tasty and highly nutritious snack. Lots of great ways to use them. Several years ago I was introduced to Frozen red raspberries. Usually have some in the freezer to snack on when I am in the mood.
My new summer lunchtime fruit of choice. Like all the varieties but most especially the red ones. Tasty and delicious!
Honeydew Melon
Not as good as cantelope but still a refreshing and delicious choice. I love those fruit bouquets featuring cantelope, melon and strawberries on a stick. We rarely buy honeydew melon but always enjoy it when we see it.
This is something we rarely have and certainly never buy. I would not even know how to prepare it. However, put a plate of this stuff in front of me and I will probably devour the whole thing. Different and delicious!
Unfortunately in my estimation peaches have dropped like a rock on my list of favorites. I still love a good peach but I have found over the years that the quality of peaches has declined precipitously. When I was a kid peaches had that fuzzy skin and were consistantly juicy, sweet and delicious. No so any more. More often than not the peaches are get a mealy and dry. Very unappealling. It's a shame.
Another fruit I don't have very often. I might buy them once or twice during the summer. Belileve it or not I don't think I have ever had cherry pie.
Never cared much for pineapple. Ok in a fruit salad but this is not something I enjoy by itself.

What did you think of this list?

Great list. I like all of them except for cantaloupe. Its taste just doesn't appeal to me too much. I've grown all from your list but kiwi, pineapple, honeydew melons, grapefruit and oranges. If I lived much further south I would have grown all of those too.

I guess I would qualify as a frustrated writer. My work requires very little writing and so since 1999 I have been writing reviews on non-fiction books and anthology CD's on amazon.com. I never could … more
