the most complicated tea bag design ever

Last night at the office holiday party, I was thoughtfully gifted a box of Ineeka Tea. It's the perfect present b/c I would never have bought it for myself. It's one of those products which you can't tell if the expensive price is actually due to the quality of the product or just to the all-out packaging design.

For the price of $13.20 (according to the full retail cost listed on Amazon), what you get are 14 tea bags in a nice tin box with a thick lid, and an instructional sheet showing you how to use the tea bags.

Uh, I've never seen anything like these tea bags before. They come with paper flaps on either side so that the bag can dangle from the rims of your cup instead of sitting at the bottom. You rip off the top strip of the bag (yes, it's perforated) to open it, and then you pour water directly over the tea leaves.

OK. I assume all of this is to make sure the tea leaves circulate thoroughly, but really, you can replicate the same effect just by buying loose tea leaves and using a tea spoon or a tea strainer. It'd be more environmentally conscious too.

In terms of taste, honestly the flavor was pretty much the same as using an ordinary tea bag. In fact, the portion of tea leaves in the Ineeka bags is on the skimpy side, so I actually get a stronger flavor from other brands.

But all that being said, I enjoyed the novelty and gimmick of this brand. Every time I looked at my tea cup, I couldn't stop smiling.

This sounds really interesting ... I think I might try it just for the experience. I sometimes buy those tea flowers, not because they taste any better than other teas, but it looks so pretty when they bloom in your cup!
