Excellent Burger Joint

After a week traveling from one city to another then hitting Los Angeles a colleague of mine insisted we had to go get an In-N-Out Burger. Glad we did. While the lines were a bit long and there was little in terms of seating, after eating sandwich after sandwich for lunch every day (or nothing at all) the idea of a greasy burger and fries was most appealing. I assume In-N-Out Burger's are a West Coast thing because I have never seen one anywhere else.

The Service

This is definitely a no frills, limited menu fast food chain. There's not a very big menu and little in terms of seating, but I was taking it out so I didn't care about that. The line was long so it took a bit of time to get our burger and fries, but that is not really that different from other fast food chains at lunch time, and at least our counter person could actually, GASP, count change!

If you go to the one I was at (near Universal Studios) and want to sit down at lunch, good luck. But I didn't go there for the service or the seating, I went there for a burger and fries.

The Food

I had a double burger with fries. It was a nice, tasty, greasy, messy burger and very good French fries. While my burger kind of started falling apart on me a little I gobbled it down with glee while staring at the unwanted and uneaten sandwiches nearby. To me the quality of the meat and ingredients were much better than other fast food chains like McDonald's, Hardees, and Burger King (not that mind those at all). The food was tasty and fulfilling if you are in the mood or if you are craving a fast food burger.

The Cost

I paid nearly seven dollars for a burger, fries, and drink which was okay. I was in a touristy area and I'm not sure how the price compared to other fast food joints in the area.

The Bottom Line

I would rate this burger joint at the top end of fast food burgers that I have tried. The interior of the building wasn't as accommodating as more well known fast food places, but I thought the food tasted better and seemed to be of higher quality, for fast food that is.

Yes, In 'N Out is a west coast thing and you're going to quickly become addicted! The guy who researched and wrote Fast Food Nation actually condones In 'N Out, while he hates the likes of Mickey D's and KFC, the reasons being that they have better quality food and business practices, and they actually treat their workers well and pay way above minimum wage (minimum wage is around $7'ish dollars where I live, but the In 'N Out guys start out at $10.25 last I saw a few years ago).

In 'N Out uses higher quality meat that's never frozen, and their fries are freshly made in house, among other good restaurant practices.  They also have a "secret" menu, which you can read a bit about in @Abigail's review.  You should order some animal style fries the next time you're there.  They're my fave and almost a meal in themselves!

Thanks for the comment. I'll have to check those fries out next time I'm in LA. :)

I Could Eat A #2 Everyday For the Rest of My Life!
If you need to know the definition of perfection, going to In N Out would be a good place to start. I have never had a bad experience at this "fast food chain, everytime I eat here it's "the best burger I've ever had," not to mention, the price is right!      I think In N Out's success can be attributed to a few key qualities of the chain:       1. It's privateley owned, allowing them to keep a careful eye on every location …

In-N-Out
This review was written because today my boyfriend and I went to In-N-Out. So what is the significance of that? Well, I freakin' LOVE In-N-Out burgers! I'm very partial to fast food in general; always picky after watching the documentary Super Size Me ... but I just can't get over how delicious this fast food chain actually is. And honestly, I'm not very fond of hamburgers; so usually when I do have to go to some fast food place I always order the wraps or something else.     The …

You come here for burgers people.
In N Out was something I grew up around and never fully experienced.  It would be sometime before I would get to try one again and when I did I wondered where those lost meal opportunities went toward?      Best burger on the planet?  Could just be.  Lets see...McDonalds and White Castle?  Don't make me gut laugh!  Hardee's and Burger King?  No way.  Every town has it's own good local burger chain but nope sorry not even those.  …

It is not an overstatement to say that In 'n' Out burger has achieved So Cal icon status.   In 'n' Out recently celebrated its 60th anniversary and they haven't aged a bit!  Same delicious food and great service that I remember getting back in the '70s and same great value for your money!   The first place I think of to take a recently-arrived-in-L.A. foreigner (especially those that hail from Japan) is In 'n' Out.  Why?  Because …

Carl's, Sonic, Jack, Mickey D's... they all pale in comparison to the beauty we call In-N-Out.    In-N-Out uses all fresh ingredients--from the soft bread to the fresh tomatoes and lettuce, from the awesome beef to the "special sauce" (we all know it's Thousand Island).    In-N-Out was only a Southern California luxury until it expanded to parts of Nevada and Arizona.  Sure, we lost a key part of what made California what it is... but I guess we can share.  …
