Which is the most obnoxious Star Wars character and why? Brownie points for commenting on director George Lucas!

Young Anakin (Jake Lloyd) gets my vote for most obnoxious character. Hayden Christensen comes in a very close second. Why? Because just like TheJohn said, they turned Vader into a twerp and not the baddest man in the galaxy. George Lucas knows how to manipulate fans. As many changes, additions, and edits he made to his films, and as much as people gripe about him, everyone still lines up to check out what he does next.

I have to agree with @ and say Jar Jar. It's what came to mind when I read this question, though he's Nando's fave character. The main reason is how he speaks, it just annoys me.

I'll go against the grain and say Hayden as Anakin. The single biggest reason why I cannot watch Episode 2. From his boy band haircut to his endless moaning and whining through almost the WHOLE movie, this guys portrayal or at the very least Lucas direction of his character made Darth Vader into a whining little twerp, and NOT the baddest man in the galaxy as we thought before. Why not Jar Jar, he's ineffectual in the long run, never mind being duped into ruining the galaxy. We KNEW the galaxy was doomed anyway.
