Okay, I'm a pretty big sci-fi geek. I watch numerous sci-fi shows and I'm a big fan of most sci-fi films. I enjoy watching science fiction be used as a platform that explores deep personal truths about the human condition. Every good sci-fi movie reveals something deep about ourselves, but amongst the good ones, there are terrible sci-fi movies that never should have seen the light of day. I'm normally an easy reviewer and I'll even give a bad sci-fi film some credit every once in …

District 9 begins when a very large star ship lands in South Africa during 1982. These are aliens called "the prawns" and are initially welcomed by the human race. Now, twenty-eight years after this, the aliens are stuck and mistreated in a beat up, worthless camp called District 9. The Multi-National United, otherwise known as MNU, cares very little for the alien race, but has strong interest in their advanced weapons. An MNU field operative, Wikus Van De Merwe (Sharlto Copley) …

I went into this movie feeling slightly mislead, but in a good way. I'm not sure why, but I thought this was going to be some shallow, action oriented sci-fi movie that's only really enjoyable in theaters. I left feeling like I had seen one of the better sci-fi movies of the past few years. I could tell my friend was disappointed leaving the theater; he's the kind of person who loves terror, destruction and mayhem...yes, he's evil. I, on the other hand, enjoy a certain level of sophistication …

When District 9 was starting its viral campaign, I thought it was a clever idea, but it didn't get me wild about the film.  When I saw previews for it, I wasn't really wild about those either.  As a matter of fact, this wasn't a movie I was ever wild about seeing.  I mean, I had a touch of interest more because of the Viral stuff than the actual previews, but it wasn't high on my list.  After I left the theater after seeing District 9, I left feeling about the same way …

I enjoyed the depth of this movie and as a low budget film - I think it rocked.  The thought provoking ideals concerning cultures and manipulation masked as humane actions was very interesting.        The dynamic between the main character and his wife was also intriguing.  I wish they could have played that out a little more... but they gave you enough to appreciate their relationship.      I give this movie thumbs up and hope that people …

I was expecting an I am Legend spin, but it was nothing of the sort.  I don't want to type too much, because I don't want to give a moment away.  I'm not a huge scifi person (loved Star Trek, love Star Wars, love Marvel comic movies) and I absolutely loved this movie.  It was crazy how unexpected it was!

This movie is about a race of aliens that are stuck on earth because their ship is broken. The government sees them as a threat and separates them from the population in a concentration camp known as District 9. When i first saw the promo for this movie I was not to enthused about going to see it. But when I finally sat down to watch it, and the credits rolled at the end, I was unexpectedly pleased. Although the movie drags on at some points, the plot was very creative and not too played out. The …

The alternate future plotline and the feasibility of the world's actions as displayed make the movie both intriguing and highly believable. Visually appealing and realistic depictions of aliens and their technology as well as human reactions to aliens. Very thought provoking, very unlike any trailers released for it.

I was expecting it to much less interesting than I found it. The picture especially reminded me of independence day and there are so many times you can play that story. But this movie did a good job of representing the realities that we sometimes face in society while as entertaining us.

My first confession is that I fell asleep about an hour into this movie. Yes, despite the booming theater sounds of alien guns that were apparently detonating the heads and bodies of humans, I fell asleep. I woke up just in time to see the climatic final battle where additional limbs and heads were severed or incinerated by said weapons. It also gave me a chance to get an idea of what I missed and where the movie was going. District 9 must have been a good movie.   …

I saw District 9 a while back and I had liked it, but I think more could have been made with the ending. I would still recommend seeing it.

It's a case of humans are 'alienised' while aliens becoming more human-like! I like the movie more than I can to admit :-)

The start of this film really presented somewhat of a unique challenge for first time feature film director, Neill Blomkamp as it adopted a realistic documentary story telling style for the majority of this bizarre Sci-Fi picture. This was a unique style and for the entire time that was maintained I found myself being utterly enthralled by the whole ordeal. Something went wrong however, and in the last 45 minutes or so, Blomkamp abandoned that cinematographic method for a generic action sequence …

For starters, I'm reviewing a movie I've not seen.  However, my "encounter" with the trailer left me with this brief, yet interesting take...  Let's see, where to begin...      So, this is another quick run-off movie about aliens who've crashed to Earth.  Through some intervention, a town...dubbed District 9...has been cordoned off and alloted for these aliens.  The aliens look like shrimp transformers..hence my headline.      …
