Perhaps best known as Leeta on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Chase Masterson is an entertaining and beautiful woman. I had the wonderful opportunity to meet her over the summer at a local science fiction convention, Convention du Lac, in Lake Charles, LA. The convention had a small meet-and-greet the night before it officially began and when Ms. Masterson and Lucianna Carro (Kat of the new Battlestar Galactica) entered the room, all eyes were immediately on them.
With a smile, Masterson made her way around the room and introduced herself to everyone there. From fellow guests and presenters to shy geeks like myself, she saw to it that she met everyone present at the meet-and-greet. In no way did she come across as snobby as some celebrities have a tendency to do at events such as this one. Instead, she actually talked to each individual and appeared to be interested in our lives and not intent on reminding us of her own accomplishments instead.
My meeting with her was brief, perhaps five minutes at the most. However, the next day at the convention she remembered my name and thanked me again for coming out to meet her. The day rolled by quickly with a number of panels typical of science fiction conventions but later that night, we were all given a wonderful surprise when Chase performed in concert. Not only was she a great singer, she was hilarious as well. She sang a few standards and threw in a couple of songs that referenced DS9 as well.
The next day was just as pleasant as the previous ones. Gracious and funny as always, Ms. Masterson made the convention a real treat. I was actually featured in a picture with Ms. Masterson in the newspaper. I brought it along that day and showed it to her. She told me I looked good. That's real proof of just how good of an actress she is! I'm happy and not the least bit ashamed to say that I have three copies of that photo snipped from the newspaper as well as an 8x10 print tucked away in my scrapbook from the convention.
I also picked up on of Chase's CDs at her concert. She autographed it and a photo for me as well.
If you ever get the chance to meet Chase Masterson, do it! Not only does she appear to genuinely love her fans, she appears to love all things Star Trek as well.

Despite looking extremely cool, I have to admit that I'm a dork. I grew up on the outskirts of the small town of Oberlin, LA. I have since relocated to the Lake Charles, LA area.I love my home state … more
