Well constructed and entertaining

This is a very entertainng read - well constructed and thought out science fiction which ranks it up there with "Dune" and "Ender's Game". What is particularly appealing is the way each character unfolds their story as their pilgrimage progresses, with each story very different but equally as interesting. The world of the future is painted as vivid and believable, though I do agree with some other reviewers who have commented that the author appears to be totally obsessed with John Keats.

A final comment - don't bother reading Keats' poem "Hyeprion" if you are not already familiar with it - it sheds little light on the complexity of the novel.

Over all it is a rich, detailed and enjoyable epic, great for escapism and one which I thoroughly recommend.

I am one of the few people who don't see to love the Hyperion series.  This first in the series is pretty solid but overall I find the entire series disjointed and uneven.

About this book

Wiki

On the eve of Armageddon, with the entire galaxy at war, seven pilgrims set forth on a final voyage to Hyperion seeking the answers to the unsolved riddles of their lives. Each carries a desperate hope--and a terrible secret. And one may hold the fate of humanity in his hands.

A stunning tour de force, this Hugo Award-winning novel is the first volume in a remarkable new science fiction epic by the author of The Hollow Man.
