Autobots, Decepticons

Much more than meets the eye
Robots in disguise on earth
And now I'll tell you why
Optimus Prime and Megatron
Agreed to have a battle
The latter wanted the All Spark
As if it were his chattel
Cybertron has been destroyed
The All Spark must be found
Megatron picks up the trail
And crashes to the ground
Decepticons arrive on Earth
Attacking army bases
They're looking to find Megatron
In all the likely places
And that's the lead in to this movie, which of course is based on a toy, so don't expect "believable" to be a key word here.
The two minute version:
Autobots - good
Decepticons - bad
Cybertron - former home planet of both
All Spark - cube shaped object of utmost importance and considerable power
Optimus Prime - Autobot leader
Megatron - Decepticon leader
Blackout, Frenzy, Barricade, Starscream, Scorponok, Bonecrusher, Devastator - bad
Bumblebee, Jazz, Ratchet, Ironhide - good
Sam Witwicky - Hormone driven human teenager, grandson of famous Arctic explorer, unknowing owner of important clue to location of All Spark.
Mikaela Banes - object of affection, has mechanical skills
Decepticons want the All Spark, Autobots want to make sure they don't get it.
Big battle ensues
The end - until the sequel, that is.
Shia LaBeouf (Sam Witwicky) beefs up physically for this demanding role, and does a great job portraying a typical teenager caught up in an inter-galactic war. Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Anthony Anderson, Jon Voight, Megan Fox and others provide adequate human support.
The CGI is amazing, with voices by Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime) and Hugo Weaving (Megatron), and this alone is almost worth the price of the DVD.
Action packed, funny, and everything you'd expect from a really cool toy franchise.

More Transformers reviews
Intense, smart but not too smart and intriguing this big screen adaptation of the popular transformers franchise works better than it should, plays out better than you could ever expect. However, in the end leaves you wanting more.

Say what you will about Michael Bays Transformers, this is one of my favorite movies of all time. Though not everyone is a fan of this film, it was one of the biggest hits during the summer of 2007, if not the biggest. Transformers is an action packed, story driven thrill ride, something that Michael Bay knows how to pull off all to well. In this 2007 blockbuster, we are enlightened to the creation of the Autobots, a benevolent race of robots from the planet Cybertron. We are then made aware of its destruction by the malevolent Decepticons, and in the process loses the All Spark on Earth. This movie was good in terms of the special effects and all but that was about it. Well Megan Fox made it somewhat enjoyable to watch too, just purely on her hotness. And Shia LaBeuf played his role pretty well too. But overall, I expected a lot more from this movie as an old school fan of the cartoon. What a surprise. Transformers, is sincerely the most unlikely candidate for one of my favourite films of all time, yet it nabbed a spot in an instant. Michael Bay, let's face it, isn't the greatest Director in the world, but there's no denying that he's still good at what he does. He has the capability of creating an epic and enjoyable mindless blockbuster, that when you come out of watching it, you're not sure why, but you loved it. You can't overthink "Transformers." Basically, what you have are huge talking robots that sometimes turn into automobiles. Some are good, some are bad, and they battle each other. Trying to take Transformers seriously, or attempting to forge some deeper meaning out of the symbology of Transformers, is as futile as Megatron's attempts to defeat Optimus Prime. Although CGI is pretty much the cornerstone of this movie, I really enjoyed it. The acting was great. Shia LaBeouf did a great job and made some parts of the movie funny for the younger crowd. An of course you have to have a hot chick that kicks some butt in these kind of movies and I think Megan Fox did a good job. The fight scenes are hard to follow due to their speed and the complexity of the Transformers bodies, especially at the end. But overall it is … more

About this movie
A long time ago, far away on the planet of Cybertron, a war was being waged between the noble Autobots (led by the wise Optimus Prime) and the devious Decepticons (commanded by the dreaded Megatron) for control over the Allspark, a mystical talisman that would grant unlimited power to whoever possessed it. The Autobots managed to smuggle the Allspark off the planet, but Megatron blasted off in search of it. He eventually tracked it to the planet of Earth (circa 1850), but his reckless desire for power sent him right into the Arctic Ocean, and the sheer cold forced him into a paralyzed state. His body was later found by Captain Archibald Witwicky, and before going into a comatose state Megatron used the last of his energy to engrave a map, showing the location of the Allspark, into the Captain's glasses, and send a transmission to Cybertron. He is then carted away by the Captain's ship. A century later, Sam Witwicky, nicknamed Spike by his friends, buys his first car. To his shock, he discovers it to be Bumblebee, an Autobot in disguise who is to protect Spike, as he bears the Captain's glasses and the map carved on them. But Bumblebee is not the only Transformer to have arrived on Earth - in the desert of Qatar, the Decepticons Blackout and Scorponok attack a U.S. military base, causing the Pentagon to send their special Sector Seven agents to capture all "specimens of this alien race," and Spike and his girlfriend Mikaela find themselves in the middle...
