Memorable Theme Songs

A song from the 70s. Nadia's Theme was originally named "Cotton's Dream". Composed & written by De Vorzon and Botkin Jr in 1971. The music was rearranged in 1973 for the soap opera The Young & The Restless. In 1976, it was renamed Nadia's Theme lent the music to Nadia Comaneci, a gymnast in the 1976 Summer Olympics.

I love the music and even though it has been playing for decades, I never did get tired of hearing it. It is one of the finest in the music industry!

Written by Max Steiner, this wonderful piece dated as far back as the 40s. Max Steiner also wrote the score for Gone With The Wind. 

This is a song that resonates with me, despite its age. It is an everlasting melody which most of us who are born before the 80s would be able to enjoy. Casablanca the film would not have been as great if not because of this melody, imho.

Theme song from the movie Somewhere in Time. This is classic and renders the movie one of the best of its times. Jane Seymour was heavenly in this movie while Christopher Reeves was not his usual Superman self.



I do believe this is one theme song that complements the story so well so that most of us will remember it as a theme song from this movie rather than Rachmaninoff's composition!

Forrest Gump Suite is the name of the song. It is simple yet touching, just like Forrest Gump. One of the many melodies which stay with us, despite that it's from the 90s.

One of Frank Sinatra's best, imho. Love is a Many Splendored Thing is not only a great movie but has a great music score. Love it!!! My dad introduced me to this song as a child hence whenever I hear it, it takes me back to my childhood. What a marvelous conditioning!

The Theme Song from St. Elmo's Fire. I had forgotten all about the film, but the song remains clearly in my mind. Awesome! Bravo to David Foster who wrote this song in 1985.

This song was by my bedside for months when I first came across it. I had to listen to it before I sleep every night! Having loved the movie which revolves around ice-skating, I love the song as much as the sport today!



Love Theme from Ice Castles originated from 1978 was composed by Marvin Hamlisch & sung by Melissa Manchester. This piano version is played by Richard Clayderman.

Celine Dion hits it big with this theme song from the Titanic in the 1997 blockbuster. It might not even be a blockbuster had it not for the song. It has become Celine Dion's signature song, hasn't it? 

Music by James Horner, the melody is one of the greatest and I do love the song more than the film. This song was the world's best singles in 1998 and one of the best singles of all time!



If you had somehow missed this song, you must have been an alien all these years!!!

As Orn pointed out, I missed out on this one. Well, I agreed. It's before my time but I heard it on one of my parents' collection as a child and it's a great one. So here it is, Love Theme from Doctor Zhivago. I never did see the film so I don't really know how well it tied in with the movie. In any case, the melody is fantastic!

Love Theme from The Godfather, a movie that stars Al Pacino, Marlon Brandon & Robert Duvall.
For a gangster movie, it certainly has the most amazing music. Composed by Nino Rota.

Award winning score from the movie Dances with Wolves. Composed by John Barry. I recognized the melody despite the fact that sometimes I'm not too sure which movie it comes from. Anyhow, this is another great one from the 90s!

Pope John Paul II once mentioned that this is one of his favorite pieces of music.
