Everyone knows I am out of ouch when it comes to my music so what the hell am I doing trying to review something when I really don’t have a hoot what I am going to say?! I’ve never reviewed music before and frankly I don’t know how to start; but I figured since I have reviewed Asian cinema a lot, maybe…just maybe my write up on one of Japan’s heavy metal bands will be accepted in my buddy’s little community. Actually I want to contribute here so the hell what you think…I’ll post whatever I want in the “Radio” community! (Actually I wanted to do a political rant about SF”s stupid, overblown “no smoking” policies but hey, this is more fun…
X-Japan is one of the most popular bands in Japan which was founded in 1982 by Deyama Toshimitsu and Hayashi Yoshiki. It was first called “X” and it was rumored that the “X” manga was inspired by this band. I have no idea if this was indeed fact. They began as a power/speed metal until they finally evolved with progressive sound. Yeh, they also had a knack for having these outrageous hairstyles that were colorful and looks well, like water pouring out and sprinkling out of a fountain-well that was in the past. Consider it inspired by anime and Japanese cosplay if you will.
The band definitely had several members that came and went (as with any other band) I began listening to them in the late 80’s to the 90’s. Their sound has definitely evolved through the years, in the wake of American and UK bands. They have real mad heavy metal compositions but I prefer their emotional ballads. One of their songs were actually featured in the anime “X”. many of their songs make use of the piano as its central focus with some orchestrated entries. The songs are mostly composed by Yoshiki with some small contributions from other members. They first achieved mainstream fame with the album “Blue Blood”. The band was supposed to have been included in Japan’s version of ROCK BAND 2--which I may be importing for 3,800 yen.
Anyway, I wanted to just include my favorite songs of the band; here’s a sampling in their REUNION tour.
There are semi-English versions out there for "Tears".... I've included the lyrics as requested:
doko ni yukebaii anata to hanarete ima wa sugisatta toki ni toikakete nagasugita yoru ni tabidachi wo yume mita ikoku no sora mitsumete kodoku wo dakishimeta nagareru namida wo toki no kaze ni kasanete owaranai anata no toiki wo kanjite DRY YOUR TEARS WITH LOVE DRY YOUR TEARS WITH LOVE
LONELINESS YOUR SILENT WHISPER FILLS A RIVER OF TEARS THROUGH THE NIGHT MEMORY YOU NEVER LET ME CRY AND YOU, YOU NEVER SAID GOOD-BYE SOMETIMES OUR TEARS BLINDED THE LOVE WE LOST OUR DREAMS ALONG THE WAY BUT I NEVER THOUGHT YOU'D TRADE YOUR SOUL TO THE FATES NEVER THOUGHT YOU'D LEAVE ME ALONE
TIME THROUGH THE RAIN HAS SET ME FREE SANDS OF TIME WILL KEEP YOUR MEMORY LOVE EVERLASTING FADES AWAY ALIVE WITHIN YOUR BEATLESS HEART DRY YOUR TEARS WITH LOVE DRY YOUR TEARS WITH LOVE
nagareru namida wo toki no kaze ni kasanete owaranai kanashimi wo aoi bara ni kaete DRY YOUR TEARS WITH LOVE DRY YOUR TEARS WITH LOVE nagareru namida wo toki no kaze ni kasanete owaranai anata wo toiki wo kanjite DRY YOUR TEARS WITH LOVE DRY YOUR TEARS WITH LOVE DRY YOUR TEARS WITH LOVE DRY YOUR TEARS WITH LOVE
If you could have told me everything You would have found what love is If you could have told me what was on your mind I would have shown you the way Someday I'm gonna be older than you I've never thought beyond that time I've never imagined the pictures of that life For now I will try to live for you and for me I will try to live with love, with dreams, and forever with tears
Well, enjoy. so...you want more? I am still chillin' like a villain....
