Romantic + Charismatic = Enrique

  • Dec 5, 2010
Born under the shadow of an equally famous father (Julio Iglesias), Enrique took his time to make his mark and made it he did! The beauty of latino music is that it has the element of romance in it. For some reasons, the Spaniards, Filipinos and Indonesians are great in this type of music. Many artistes from these countries are a natural when it comes to singing romantic ballads. As far as Enrique goes, he has made it! With 55 million albums sold, he's as much a household name as his dad. This did not come easy though as Iglesias did not want to gain popularity under his father's name. He actually used a stage name (Iglesias Martinez) in making his way into the music industry!

Nonetheless, he finally recorded his first album in 1995 in Toronto titled Enrique Iglesias. That was a total success for a newcomer especially since it's recorded in Spanish & had a sale of 1/2 million copies in one week! This album alone yielded 5 singles. I remembered buying it back then & thought it was a great album, even more so for a new singer! Take a look at one of the songs and you can see how far he has progressed over the years.

The following are from the more recent albums. They are great if not some of the best! I'm sure you'll enjoy them as much as I do. Enrique has many facets, sometimes he's sensous, romantic while at other times he's upbeat and exudes so much energy that you can't help but joined the rhythm and being lifted up from the doldrums. That's the beauty of Enrique Iglesias' music!

For those who prefer English than music from the world, Enrique also have a great selections to choose from. Here are some of my most favorite. What do you think? Awesome?!

About this musician

Born: May 08, 1975

At the dawn of the new millennium, Enrique Iglesias was the best-selling Latin recording artist in the world. The son of multi-million-selling singer Julio Iglesias, Enrique was born in Madrid, Spain, where he lived with his mother, his brother Julio, and his sister Chabeli. In 1982, his mother sent them to live in Miami with their father. While there, Enrique was exposed to three different cultures and musical influences: Hispanic, European, and American.

Iglesias' own career started when he was still attending Gulliver Private School, a very prestigious school in Miami. He made his singing debut in a production of +Hello, Dolly, after which he began practicing his singing without his parents knowing. After a year studying business at the University of Miami, he decided to follow his passion for music. In 1995, he sang in person for his soon-to-be manager, who at Iglesias' insistence of not wanting to use his family name, first shopped his demos as an unknown Central American singer named Enrique Martinez. It wasn't until he earned a record deal with Fonovisa that Enrique told his father and mother of his aspirations. Then he flew to Toronto, where no one knew him and he could concentrate just on music, to record for five months.

That first album, Enrique Iglesias (1995), sold more than a million copies in three months (it earned him his first gold record in Portugal in a mere seven days) and to date has sold more than six million ...
