I was in Hong Kong earlier today & called a friend who's leaving for Singapore on business trip but will extend his trip at the end of the week to check out the latest Universal Studios opened in Singapore (on Chinese New Year Day) & to check out food in Singapore. He also mentioned about seafood and that literally translated to Jumbo Seafood Restaurant.

Then I had dinner with Citygirl008 & Cherlia and they both love the same restaurant! When Cherlia mentioned that her colleagues & her wanted Jumbo everyday they're in Singapore, it then reminded of another Japanese friend who was asking for Jumbo as soon as he reached Singapore. Not to mention a Hungarian whom I had dinner at Jumbo too!
So, now you get an idea of how popular Jumbo is to all visitors arriving in Singapore. Its reputation precedes the restaurant! Well, Chili Crab, that's what everyone is coming for! What else would you want to order? It is afterall a seafood restaurant, here's a list of some of my popular dishes at Jumbo.
- Jumbo Chilli Crab - this is Jumbo's signature dish. A must for all 1st timer, esp. if you love crabs!
- Fried Prawns with Cereals - this one is great, one recent new creation by chef in Singapore. The shelled prawns are being fried with cereals. Other than the Chilli Crab which we may not order each meal, this is one I'd definitely order whenever I'm at Jumbo. Lovely!
- Crispy Baby Squids - My sister loves this one. It's crunchy & a cute dish.
- Donut with Seafood Paste - I like this dish very much, especially when dipped with the shrimp paste sauce. Reminds me of Rujak, a snack I love in Indonesia.
- Scallop wrapped in Yam Ring & Deep Fried Whole Scallop
Jumbo Seafood has about 7 outlets in different parts of Singapore. The most popular with the tourists is the one at East Coast Seafood Centre. However, they also have another outlet near Merchant Court Hotel, at the Riverwalk. If you intend to go for Chilli Crab, your best option would be East Cost outlet. Otherwise, the Riverwalk outlet is good enough especially for lunch.
Jumbo's membership discount is only available during lunch if I'm not mistaken. So, if you'd like to get better deal, go during lunch instead.

Um, can we bring this over to the United States? We have chain fast food here, not chain jumbo seafood! *drool*

heh. Not really a big fan of the crab but I do love scallops. donut with shrimp paste? ok...I am intrigued.

Jumbo Seafood (Chinese: 珍宝海鲜楼) is a restaurant-chain in Singapore specialising in seafood. First opened in 1987 with an outlet at the East Coast Seafood Centre, it opened an additional five both in the city and in the suburban areas of Serangoon Gardens and theSingapore Indoor Stadium, with its newest outlet opening in SAFRA's National Service Resort and Country Club at Changi Coast Walk.

The restaurant chain actively promotes dishes like the chilli crab, sotong you tiao, crispy baby squid and sambal kangkong as Singaporean dishes, and works with the Singapore Tourism Board to promote the chilli crab as a significant local dish.
