Did more for Nike promotions than awareness to sponsored organizations.

Last week, I completed the 10K race sponsored by Nike.  The event happened near the Colosseum area in Los Angeles, and started off at exactly 8:31:08PM.  It went up Adams and throughout the USC area, but was still real safe.

I was grateful for the opportunity to run the race since it gave me an outlet to exercise and stay motivated to run, but in terms of giving back to the community - I was disappointed.  The Nike Human race was meant to promote funds and awareness for three separate organizations: The Lance Armstrong Foundation, the World Wildlife Fund, and the UN Refugee Agency. For every registered runner, Nike donated $5 back to the cause of your choice.  That sounds very good, considering the fact that over 25 countries participated in the race and registered over 90 million runners this year.  However, I felt there could have been more done to promote each organization's causes.

Instead, each runner was required to wear a Nike jersey, and promotions of the Nike Human race said nothing of the missions of either organization it listed to donate to.  Promotions of the Nike+ products and shoes were more obvious than the genuine mindset to give something back.

Otherwise, it was a fun event.  Nike provided great training resources prior to the run, and put on a good show.  Kanye West headlined the after party, which is always good.

Good and successful event on a global level.  But if you want a more personal impact, look elsewhere to promote your choice of philanthropy.

The race is strongly associated with The Nike+ and iPodrange and seems to be achieving a great deal of success in its firstyear. Over 1 million runners are taking part in each race and helpingraise money for The UN Refugee Agency, Lance Armstrong Foundation and The WWF. Runners are treated to performing bands such as Pendulum, Moby etc. The run is advertised as a perfect opportunity to enjoy all that the world has to offer as well as keeping fit and healthy and raising money for charity.
