This lushly animated, graphically violent, darkly comic animated series stars Samuel L. Jackson as the voice of the Afro Samurai, a man on a classic journey of revenge in a futuristically styled rendering if Feudal Japan. In this world, the No. 1 samurai … see full wiki
This movie is one of the highpoints of anime. The story of Afro Samurai follows a young boy from he time he witnesses His fathers death at the hands of the number 2 samurai, to the end of the series where he avenges his father and gains the title of number 1 samurai. It is not a tale of classic samurai though, as it involves gunplay, bazooka toting men, and robots. The opening fight is one of the best ones I have seen in quite a while. And it introduces a character that is only a figment of Afro's (Samuel L. Jackson) imagination. It is quite a spectacle of film making, as it breaks many of the rules set up by previous samurai movies, has a well known actor doing one of the voices, and incorporates a helluva soundtrack. All in all it tells the story it needs to tell in quite a spectacular way. It is a classic anime in my book, and I suggest it to anyone who enjoys a good well drawn action anime. Ill admit it is a bit heavy on the blood and gore, but there are far worse out there.
