This was without a doubt the coolest birthday present I got this year. I've often been caught on the road without my cigarette lighter charger and my iPod power dwindling.

After a weekend away, I used up my iPhone's batteries tweeting away, but wanted to listen to some tunes via the car stereo. Low battery warning, oh no! Still an hour and a half to get home, what to do?
No problem with my new FreeLoader, already juiced up with a pre-charge via USB (don't forget that, folks - you do have to pre-charge it with your computer).
I plugged it in to my iPhone and set up the FreeLoader with its solar collectors on the dashboard.
In no time, (30 minutes or so) my iPhone was fully charged and so was the FreeLoader, thanks to the sun beaming down on us.
This FreeLoader gadget is so small and lightweight that I keep it in my purse on a daily basis in case such an emergency arises again. There's no reason to ever be lost without power. It comes with a slew of adapter tips to charge tons of phones or cameras. I recommend it for anyone who makes a habit of stealing away from society.
This model was only $50, and I'm pretty impressed.
Caveat: I've only used it once, so I'll be interested to hear from anyone else who has one.
Negatives: It gets warm when charging. Nearly hot. So careful where you set it, and I wouldn't leave it unattended when connected to your stuff. For my money it's an excellent emergency power supply.
The same source, ThinkGeek, sells a more expensive model for $80, so if you're looking for a regular solar charging source, I might spring for that one.
