The AppShopper is a great alternative to using the App Store application. You can use all kinds of filters to search specific apps. For example, I like searching for new apps that are free or have a price change. You can even filter what kind of apps you are looking for from games, productivity or entertainment - with many more to choose from.
The AppShopper is a free download and a must have the the iPad user.
