Basket Case was the first film of the Basket Case trilogy. The story is about twin brothers Duane and Belial Bradley. Their birth was a unique one. They're a pair of conjoined twins. Duane is the normal looking one but Belial is the deformed brother who's highly intelligent can communicates telepathically with Duane. The twins were eventually separated in a very painful surgery because the father wanted Duane to have a chance of living a normal life., After the surgery the father tries to get rid of Belial but Duane finds him and puts him in a basket. Years later the two brothers move to New York City to track down the surgeons who participated in the operation. Living in seedy motels, Duane searches around town whilst Belial resides in a large wicker basket. Duane's lack of street smarts and the larger wicker basket attract a lot of unwanted attention. Belial has a very jealous and psychotic streak that gets poor Duane into all sorts of trouble. Can the two brothers get along in the big city? Will Duane ever have a normal life? Why do the brothers have such a violent vendetta against those who tried to separate them?

I saw this movie on video several years ago and I was amazed by how will it was made. Shot on a tiny budget Frank Henenlotter manages to create a highly successful cult film that spawned two sequels. Duane and the basket would make a brief apperance in Henelotter's second film Bran Damage. If you like weird horror films with a little dark comedy then you'll want to watch Basket Case.

*** out of **** I have a lot of trouble accessing certain classic "B-Movie" flicks, especially ones within the horror genre. Maybe this is because I'm stubborn and need a narrative to call a film good, or maybe this is because I sincerely don't like the films. I don't know, and I never will.
