Only to give background on my perspective of this book, I have been to India several times over the past decade since I married my Indian wife and have traveled as tourist there extensively.  Thankfully, I had her to take me places and be my tour guide.  Otherwise it would have been utterly overwhelming (I think).  I have seen many of the places covered in this book, but by no means all.

This book does a really marvelous job of covering all the important things to see and what to look for as you are traveling in India.  While there were times while I was reading through this I thought, “but warn readers of this,” or “don’t forget to tell them that,” or “they are being a little soft on the travails of traveling here,” all those details would take a humongous tome to cover.  And many times it even gets to the finer points I wanted to see covered.

Overall I would give this a hearty recommendation on any wanting to travel to India.  In fact, a native tour guide or a book like this is almost essential.
