Great fuzzed-out surf rock for a brand new generation!
Feb 16, 2009
Wavves' self-titled effort is a not only a welcomed new sound, it is a very well executed noise-rock record. The guitars on the record are super-fuzzed out and the vocals all have distorted effects on them. But this does not detract from how well the songs are crafted. This band is bringing the surf-infused garage sound back with a vengeance. They even mix tinges of electronic bloops and bleeps to create a truly incredible soundscape. Some of the songs take a bit of ‘getting used to' if you have never listened to any noise-rock bands before. Wavves are loud and brash and mix tons of harsh noise into their sound. All-in-all, it is a very rocking record. The only complaint I have is with the instrumental tracks. They don't really sound like they are cohesive with the rest of the record. Despite that small detail, definitely one of the coolest pieces to have come out this year!
