Local bluegrass band, Full Moon Express from South Jersey, who played during the mid seventies and into the mid nineties, recently made an appearance at the West Deptford library. They played a short

set of bluegrass music in a coffee house setting to help with a traveling exhibit from the Smithsonian Institute celebrating roots music.
The band was well received as well as the other acts that performed that day. Full Moon Express released a CD a few years ago entitled “Memories of the Past”. The Full Moon Express plays a progressive style of bluegrass music that had some notoriety back in the 70’s. Bands like Hot Rize and New Grass Revival took bluegrass to a different level than the traditional sound of bluegrass of the Dillard's and Flat & Scruggs style.

The CD is a simple recording of the band rehearsing for an upcoming performance. Standing around two Shure micro-phones the band recorded this collection of songs with a simple stereo reel to reel tape player.
Popular tunes on the CD that makes this a progressive bluegrass album are, Mid-Night Rider, I’ve Just Seen a Face and You Ain’t going No Where.
On the more traditional side of bluegrass, The Old Home Place and Ebo Walker made the cut for the CD.
