I really like this story for the sensation it brings. That feeling of innocence in the game the idea that baseball was a pure and decent sport. A time before any strikes, before steroids and HGH, a time when baseball was about a passion for the game and the desire to play well and win.
Not as refined of a baseball movie as #1, but a classic film that has provided us with many quotes that can be used in almost any situation. One of the great sports comedies with an excellent cast and a good story. Bob Uecker is definitely in the running for best sportscaster in a movie... (Competition: Best in Show, Dodgeball)
One of the best kids stories to date; it teaches the value of teamwork, not to judge a book by it's cover and sportsmanship... not to mention cursing, smoking, and beer drinking... All joking aside, the 1976 version is a classic that teaches what any good baseball flick does, all of life's lessons can be learned on the diamond.
A relative new comer, made in 2002. It's a decent story about a man chasing his dream of making it in the majors. same as #1, it shows a passion for the game that you don't always see on TV or read about in the paper.
I can't believe that EIGHT MEN OUT wouldn't have made the top five. Oh well, I guess that's what makes horse races. I have to admit that I practically worship John Sayles and he can do no wrong in my book. If you ever get the chance (and don't mind experiencing a major downer) watch hisflick MEN WITH GUNS. He nearly won an Oscar for Best Foreign Langiage Film for that one.
