Fast Food Attitude

  • Nov 3, 2010

This list features five fast food restaurants that I love and five fast food restaurants that I believe can improve themselves or I avoid like the plague.  I hope you enjoy it and if you agree or disagree with any of my choices, let me know why!

Raising Cane's
They only sell chicken fingers, Texas Toast, french fries, and coleslaw, but they do an excellent job of it.  While they might not be the healthiest fast food choice around, they are definitely good at what they do!
See the full review, "Do One Thing And Do It Right".

While nitpickers can find plenty of bad things about this supposed healthy fast food restaurant, my experiences at the many Subway restaurants I've visited have almost always been good ones.  They offer a wonderful variety of sandwiches and you can actually witness them build it in front of you.  Despite being a fatty and a carnivore, I have a soft spot for the Veggie Delite.

See the full review, "Subway: Eat (Reasonably) Fresh!".
Popeye's beat out KFC as America's favorite fried chicken for a reason. It tastes good! They also feature some excellent fast seafood, wonderful sides, and the best biscuits in the business!
Jack in the Box
Jack In The Box is absolutely NOT the place to eat if you're health conscious, but if you like hamburgers loaded with cheese, bacon, mayo and all of the other wonderful things that make the world go 'round, it's the place to be. I have to also compliment them for at least trying to cater to healthier eaters by offering a number of alternatives to their standard burger and fries menu. Also, they serve their entire menu all day!
Sonic Drive-In
Sonic serves up one of my favorite hamburgers, the SuperSONIC Cheeseburger. Sure, it tips the scale at nearly 900 calories but, darn, it sure tastes great! Also, Sonic usually has excellent service and who can deny the greatness of their tator tots?
My bottom five list starts with Ronald's place. While I don't necessarily hate McDonald's, I have to say that over 75% of the Mickey D's that I've visited have featured poor service and dirty stores. The employees just don't seem to be enjoying themselves and the food offering is inconsistent. When I plunk down six dollars for a quick salad, I expect that salad to fill up at least HALF of the bowl!
Every single Arby's that I've ever visited has been dirty. While the staff is usually pretty nice, the stores just don't look or even feel clean. Also, their prices have been steadily climbing for some time now, and they don't match up with the food quality in my opinion.
Church's Chicken
Even though they were at one time owned by the same company that owns Popeye's, Church's has always been the red-headed stepchild of fried chicken in my opinion. The stores and service are hit-and-miss, with most of them usually being poor as far as cleanliness and service goes. Also, the chicken is cheap, and the quality suffers due to this.
Taco Bell
Another hit-and-miss restaurant, Taco Bell has always had a problem with speed of service in my opinion. Also, some of the stores are just flat-out filthy.
Burger King
It really pains me to add Burger King to the bottom five of my list. I used to love going there, especially when I was in college, because the hamburgers actually tasted like real hamburgers and you could get out of the door for a fairly reasonable price. However, I've noticed a big drop off in service and food quality over the last couple of years. While the stores are usually clean, some of the staff isn't! I truly hope that Burger King turns things around, so that I can bump them either off of this list or at least into the top five.

What did you think of this list?

I have a cure for the Popeyes problem-- DRIVE THROUGH! Then you never have to know how dirty they may or may not be and you can just eat all that Delicious grease in blissful ignorance like I do.
