Okay, technically this list doesn't have a whole lot to do with the actual holiday of Thanksgiving. I'm pretty much using it as an excuse to make a list of some of the most awesome birds (the real deal and fictional) in honor of our good friend the turkey. Since many turkeys will be consumed in just a few weeks, I figured I owed it to them to make a list in their honor. Here's a silly, completely pointless list that I hope brightens up your day.
Turkey gets top billing on this list for the simple fact that without turkeys, Thanksgiving would be just another day of the week AND we'd never have a real use for cranberry sauce. Here's to turkeys all over the world!
Why is Big Bird number two? If Elmo hadn't shown up a few years ago, Big Bird would still be dominating Sesame Street. Without Big Bird, Sesame Street would be nothing more than an overgrown puppet show. Besides, he's the only bird I know who has legit "street" cred!
Not only has this beautiful and unique creature made a strong comeback since almost being wiped out of existence a few years ago, the brown pelican perfectly symbolizes the uniqueness and resilience of the great state of Louisiana!
What's the word? Thunderbird! From what I've heard, it's hard to find this cheap wine these days. Way back in the 1990's, myself and a friend would purchase this stuff from a local Texaco station. We always got weird looks when we bought it, but this swill got us through many semesters!
