"Who" Do You Love?

Doctor Who is my favorite science fiction series.  Okay, it's my favorite television series, period.  While many current fans are only familiar with the good Doctor from the 2005 revival of the series, I've been a fan of the program since I first watched it on PBS way back in the very early 80's.  Like most people around my age, my first introdction to the Doctor was via Tom Baker's portrayal.  Over the years, I've managed to see every incarnation of the Doctor thanks to PBS, VHS (remember those?), and DVDs.  Here's a list of all of the Doctors from the beginning and a brief glimpse at them as the Doctor.
William Hartnell
The original Doctor. He portrayed the Doctor from 1963 to 1966.
Patrick Troughton
The second doctor (1966-1969). It is difficult to locate many of the episodes of Hartnell and Troughton, since the BBC often reused master tapes while filming the program.
Jon Pertwee
Doctor #3 (1970-1974). The "dandy" Doctor. Pertwee was also the first Doctor to be scene taking a shower!
Tom Baker
The fourth (1974-1981) and (at least until David Tennant), most popular Doctor.
Peter Davison
The fifth Doctor (1981-1984). He's a personal favorite of mine.
Colin Baker
The sixth Doctor (1984-1986). His time as the Time Lord was full of controversy, primarily on the part of the BBC. Unfortunately the show suffered due to this. Baker has breathed new life into the character via radio broadcasts, however. I also understand that he's a brilliant person in real life.
Sylvester McCoy
The seventh doctor (1987-1989, briefly in 1996). McCoy's Doctor was a good guy, but he had a very sinister streak in him.
Paul McGann
The eighth Doctor from the 1996 movie. I wish they would have expanded his character in the revived television series. He does live on in the radio broadcasts and books.
Christopher Eccleston
Eccleston portrayed the Doctor for the first season of the revived series (2005). He portrayed him as both a bit goofy and dark and the same time (not unlike McCoy's version).
David Tennant
Quite possibly the most popular Doctor, Tennant portrayed the eleventh incarnation of the Doctor from 2005 to 2010.
Matt Smith
Matt Smith is the current and eleventh portrayal of the Doctor. While he's only got one season under his belt, he appears to have settled into the role quite well. He's funny and serious all at the same time.

Tom Baker was the first Dr. Who I ever saw. Then I saw some of John Pertwee. I would say I was never really a Dr. Who fan though. Baker was just very funny in a campy sort of way.

To me Baker always came across as a guy who was always having fun with the show, no matter how serious or silly it could get at times.

Despite looking extremely cool, I have to admit that I'm a dork. I grew up on the outskirts of the small town of Oberlin, LA. I have since relocated to the Lake Charles, LA area.I love my home state … more
