Exquisite! That's the only word that kept ringing in my ears after each course of the 4-course meal I have had tonight. The first time I thought China has finally come up on par with the surrounding regional countries where western cuisines and steaks are concerned.
What did I have that was so impressive? And why? At what kind of prices?
4-Course meal at LeMARAIS
1. Japanese Tuna Salad
This is the first time I heard myself echoing the word "exquisite" while I was sampling the salad. I'm really not a salad person & dislike pickles mostly. But boy, the tuna here was perfect and coupled with the picked zucchini, it was simply ... yes! Exquisite!!! :-) Oh my, it was awesome! & I wasn't even that hungry when I walked in!
2. Pumpkin Soup
Smooth, tasty, simply delish! Exquisite #2!
3. Lamb Chop with HP Sauce It's not everyone's favorite and most restaurants don't do it well, even if they are European restaurants! I was pleasantly surprised at how good this restaurant managed to turn out this plate of lamb chop! Makes me wonder if Le Marais chef is a foreigner! I checked! Nope, it was a local but one who had gone abroad to learn his trade. Makes me wonder where?! I'll update you guys when I find out the next visit, soon!!! May be tomorrow ;-)
The lamb chop was most tender and just perfectly executed! I couldn't ask for anything better! With the mint sauce, it was spectacular! At this stage, I'm already envisioning what I'll order the next time I return for lunch or possibly high tea! Foie Gras is on my mind! I'd probably be dreaming about it tonight!
4. Strawberry Cake in Kiwi Mousse
It looks enchanting & I was dying to find out if it's as good as the last few servings! It was just sensational! The inclusion of a tiny mint leaves at to the taste making it something real special! Again, exquisite!!!
There you've it, my first trip to Le Marais. I'm sure I'll be giving you more updates on what I'll be having the next few days! For now, enjoy this first glimpse of Le Marais!
Last but not least, before I totally forget to get the check! The price? A mere US$12.88 p.p.; inclusive of 10% service charge, it comes to a total of US$14.70! How can anyone beat that?!!! Now I've got your attention, haven't I?
Guess what, if I had been in Hong Kong with the same kind of ambiance and location, I'd have been paying at least US$40 and not including service charge either! In San Francisco, at least US$50! For those who love their wines, you'd be happy to know that Le MARAIS does have a huge collection of wines which in fact you can see upon right at its entrance. So, no worries ;-)
I've since returned to LeMARAIS for two other meals and am glad to endorse its high quality food. I tried 2 other soups, the Spinach Soup & the Ox Tail Soup with Bordeaux Red Wine. They're both excellent. As the Beef fillet with green pepper, it's just perfect. The cod fish is truly awesome! I'm certainly going to be a regular at this restaurant in no time!
