posted a Quick Tip about Banyan Tree Bangkok. September 08, 2012
Banyan Tree Bangkok
It would have been in negative territory if not saved by a few of its friendly and hospitable staff!   The hotel is in subpar standard and not well kept. Unfortunately, Banyan Tree precedes its own reputation in the past and that has created a letdown experience.      Too many frustrations during check-in and leave a bitter aftertaste. Other than that, there are something …

Lobo Tom Yum Paste
Easy to prepare and cook. Not bad but not comparable to those in the restaurants. I've tried some great Tom Yum Kung in Hong Kong and Bangkok. Still, it's VFM!

Lobo Massaman Curry Paste
I haven't tried Massaman Curry when in Bangkok so I'm not quite sure exactly what it should taste like. I tried cooking this one with beef but don't really like how it turned out. May be I didn't get the right kind of beef! No idea. Good thing I didn't waste any Kobe beef on it!!!

Lobo Thai Green Curry Paste
The BEST green curry paste I've come across. It sells for around $0.50 in Bangkok. If there is any souvenir I'd like from Bangkok, this is one of them!!! Yummy!!!      See full review here.

Green Curry
This is my favorite of the Thai curries which comes in green, red or yellow. There are also Massaman curry which is less spicy. Most of the time, I simply ordered these dishes from Thai restaurants that I visited. Recently, on my trip to Bangkok in March, I came across the Lobo brand of curry pastes on sale in the supermarts. I had bought them outside Thailand but never quite tried buying them in …

Thai Cuisine
Sweet, sour, hot, spicy, you name it, they have it. Not only is Thai food delicious, it is colorful and entertaining. I love taking guests and friends to Thai restaurants where a feast doesn't end just with the main meal but with a sumptuous Thai dessert buffet! Spectacular!      Some classic Thai dishes are: Tom Yam Kung Pad Thai Green, Red and Yellow Curry Pineapple …

Thai Airways International
Thai Airways offer reasonable fares to Europe from Asia with a stopover in Bangkok. Make sure you indulge yourself with a relaxing body massage before the flight and shop for some great souvenirs at the airport while in transit. I love the food on Thai airways and the stewardess are great too.

Suvarnabhumi Airport (Bangkok International Airport)
Shopping at this airport is excellent! One can get all kinds of souvenirs including silks and massage oils within the airport. Jim Thompson has at least 2 outlets here and it's tax-free if you buy in the airport! There are also direct link by light rail to the city center. It takes about 30-45 mins by taxi into the downtown area.     If you plan on shopping and having your meals …

Jetstar Airways
One of the darling of budget airlines in Asia, Jetstar is Australian based and has the most user friendly site where fare-searching is concerned. There are often excellent deals to be found from Singapore to Australia as well as Australia's domestic sectors (sometime as low as just $1, excluding taxes and charges ;-)). Look out for its special (normally) on friday if you're heading to Australia anytime …

Jetstar Airways
In Asia, there are 3 major budget airlines operating in its international sky, namely (in alphabetical order):      Air Asia Jetstar Airways Tiger Airways    I've taken all 3 of them in the past 3-5 years or so. Each has its own distinctive strengths and weaknesses. Here I'll just attempt to outline some of the common ones since this is merely a review on …

Siam Niramit
Here's the bad news: You can't take pictures inside the theater!      Now that we got that over with, let's enjoy Siam Niramit to the fullest. It's a show that not only showcased the historical relevance of certain cultures in Thailand but also the imaginary world of hell and heaven. I found it a little peculiar but I guess it has to do with Thais' fascination …

Siam Niramit
For an evening out in the city of Bangkok to discover the traditional culture and songs & dances of Thailand, the performances at the Siam Niramit are worth the price of 1400 baht (around US$50) (including transportation to & from the theater, dinner and show which total some 4 hours, 6-10 pm). Get the tour desk at Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit to book it for you and you ought to be there before …

Westin Grande Sukhumvit Bangkok
A reasonably old hotel across from Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit which is more luxurious and has better choices of facilities. Westin has friendly staff but the hotel makes you pay for almost everything, ie. breakfast and internet access!

All Seasons Sathorn Bangkok
Great location (next to France & Malaysia Embassy on Sathorn Road; within walking distance to Sala Daeng BTS) and nice room decor. I do not like the feel of the hotel though. Old building with a dorm feel to it. Certainly lacks the hotel quality.

All Seasons Bangkok Victory Monument
This is the first All Seasons by Accor hotels that I'm staying in and reviewing. I must say it has surpassed any expectation I've of it! Coming out of Westin Sukhumvit (a 5* hotel, you know, it's Westin! Review coming soon...) and checking into a "budget" (presumably 3*) hotel can be a daunting experience. But, it is NOT and that's the best news of the day!      …

Gourmet Market
An excellent supermarket which stocks up a great deal of fresh produce as well as novelty items. I love shopping here for crispy rice crackers as well as locally made spa products. It's one of the best supermarkets I've come across in the region.

Central World
It is the 3rd largest shopping complex in the world with more than 1/2 million sq. m of shopping mall. A portion of the complex was set on fire during this year's violence in Bangkok. CentralWorld has Isetan, & Toys R US as key tenants. There is a supermarket, theaters and furniture retailers within CentralWorld. However, for some reason, Siam Paragon (which is 5 mins away) seems to be more popular. …

When it comes to property, it's a case of location, location & location!   When it comes to restaurant, it's all in a name! Four Points by Sheraton Bangkok, Sukhumvit 15
Since this is the first Four Points by Sheraton that I'm reviewing, I thought I'd give it a background check before I do so. It is not the first Four Points I've stayed nor is it the first Bangkok hotels I've stayed in. Neither is it the best Four Points by Sheraton hotels in the world! My best Four Points hotel experience was in Beijing. Nonetheless, this is the first Four Points …

Siam Paragon
One of my favorite places to shop in Bangkok. Siam Paragon is upscale with a nice food court and lots of fanciful retail outlets. The supermarket is great if you intend to shop for souvenirs to take home (mainly food stuff naturally)!
