Jim Thompson is the businessman who made this venture a success even decades after he went missing in the jungle.

No one knows what happened to him but we have all heard about his legend and the empire he had built. He had left Thailand a legacy. The Thai silk industry in Thailand will not be what it is today if not because of this American.Jim Thompson as a brand and company has many showrooms and outlets in Thailand. It has at least one boutique in Bangkok's newest airport if other stores are not convenient enough for you. It also has many boutiques outside Thailand itself. I know there's at least one in Singapore. Other than commercial entities, the house Jim Thomson has lived in is now turned into a museum. If you've time after the showroom, do venture into this museum as it certainly looks very interesting from the pictures. You guessed right, I was shopping away, including getting some ties for JR Johnson and friends at VirtualTourist.com!
Speaking of ties which I think I bought the most from Jim Thompson, the silk ties are wonderfully designed by its designers and they have worldwide appeals. I find them the best gifts for friends, colleagues and acquaintances all over the world. So far, I have not met a guy who doesn't appreciate the workmanship and quality of Jim Thompson's ties.
As for the ladies, their scarfs with motif of Thai elephants are most welcome and give it a local touch. Japanese love these scarves and I've seen Japanese grabbing them at the Oriental in Bangkok. Yes, Jim Thompson has a boutique in the renowned Oriental Hotel in Bangkok. That's also a great place to shop.
In recent years, Jim Thompson has also come up with another local creation. T-shirts with local flavor. I like them too and they make a more formal shirt than T-shirt would otherwise make. High quality and great colors to them. Lovely!
Other articles you might be interested in are the many silk bags and handbags, silk gowns, silk pajamas, you name it they have it! A great place to do your shopping but don't leave it last minute as there are lots to see and buy! I could never get tired of shopping at Jim Thompson's.

He helped revitalise the Thai silk and textile industry in the 50s and 60s but mysteriously disappeared while going for a walk in the Cameron Highlands (Malaysia) on Easter Sunday 1967. His missing is still a mystery til today.
