At 20 bucks and under, this toy's a small price to pay for the hours of enjoyment your cats will get out of it. If you’ve ever purchased the mini cat toy lasers (you know, the kind with the keychain on the end) you’ve seen how nuts a cat goes for a laser. But, while the cats are running around the house like crazy, your poor little thumb is tiring out from holding down the button...
I purchased the FroliCat Bolt Auto Laser a few months ago, popped in 4 AA batteries (not included), set it on the coffee table and the kitties have been having a blast since. It’s a fun, innovative, automatic laser toy, sure to please just about any laser driven Kitty. With a click of just one button, the laser light swirls in different patterns (up, down and all around), jumps in fast leaps, and even holds still for a few seconds to give kitties a chance to pounce.
Things I love:
-The 15 minute automation setting is perfect for giving the kitties a dose of play time without taking up any of your personal time. Because it has an auto shut off, it prevents the batteries from draining too quickly. Plus, when you head out of the house at any point, it’s a great way to give your kitties a few minutes of extra instant playtime with a click of a button.
- You can adjust the lasers direction and height by repositioning the little mirror that it bounces off of. Trying to keep the kitties off the furniture? Simly aim the mirror towards the ground. Ready to let them go wild around your house? Adjust it to the mid or high level and let the madness begin :)
-The FroliCat laser let’s you freeze the stream of light. This way, you can manually point the laser in every which way without having to hold down a button. This works great for older kitties who can sometimes get bored with the automated patterns set on the frolic.
-The red laser is extremely bright and easy for the cats to see – set it at night for added fun!
The frolic takes AA batteries which are much easier to come by than the little round silver ones that are used in most other laser toys (which happen to die in a matter of weeks)
As far as pricing, it varies from around $12.95 to $19.95 – all of which are reasonable
Things not to love:
-By the end of the 15 minutes, my cats excitement with the laser seem to die out. This will definitely vary by a cats age, along with their attention span and laser chasing stamina. My cats definetly know the difference between the auto laser and me manually controlling the laser. Of the two, they prefer to have me involved in play time...
-I don’t know exactly how harmful it can be, but there are times when you’ll catch the red laser pointing straight in the cats eye. It’s usually only a second and unpreventable at times, but certainly something to watch out for.
**My little tip – Place the laser bolt on a counter or a higher surface where your cats won’t notice it as much and point the mirror towards the ground. Once your cats figure out where the light is coming from, they’ll be less interested in the toy. Keeping it up high also reduces the likelihood of it shining in your cat's eye. It's a win - win!
Overall, a great purchase for the kitties and money well spent!
