Among the major professional sports leagues (plus the NHL) in the United States, the NBA stands out in one very minor way. In the others, there's one team which is peerless in the fact that it's running away with more titles than any other team, to such a point that it would take years for the next-closest team in the league to catch them. In the National Hockey League, the Montreal Canadiens lead … more

I'm headed down to Carmaggedon this weekend, unintentionally. I had seen this term everywhere lately on the Internet and had no clue what it was about. I asked my LA friend and she said that it was what Angelenos are calling the 405 shutdown. The 405, the most traffic heavy freeway in LA, is being shut down this weekend for construction. Panic has spread throughout LA- how will they get to LA? … more
Gus’s BBQ has been a mainstay in South Pasadena since the 1940s. It was the place to go to satisfy a craving for reasonably priced cocktails and old fashioned BBQ. You could almost be guaranteed to find any number of the local colorful characters at the bar in the back, and patrons from high chair days to senior citizens dining in the main room and front dining areas. All of this small town … more
What's with places you drive by a ton of times and think to yourself, "I will never go in there" only to find out you've been missing out on a neighborhood gem? I feel like this has been happening to me a bit lately so now I'm going to every hole in the wall joint I can find! With that said, Hudson House. Growing up in the South Bay and living in Los … more
This past weekend a close friend of mine asked if I wanted to go wine tasting with her in Malibu. She got a Groupon for 2 to Malibu Wines for a tasting. I'm a huge fan of wine tasting and I jumped on the chance to do this. The only thing was I had never heard of there being wineries in Malibu. Being from Los Angeles and living here my whole life, you'd figure that I'd at least here something … more
I met up with my pal Steffie and her beau at LACMA one day and afterward we headed to Hollywood for an early dinner at The Cat and Fiddle, a place that Steffie’s beau, a bona fide Brit, wholly endorses. Situated on Sunset Boulevard, sitting back from the noise and grime of the street is a tranquil courtyard perfect for outdoor dining. We ate inside where the decor is English pub-centric, though … more
I'm a big fan of sports bars. All types. Over my extensive years of sports bar education I've found that really the only thing that differentiates sports bars is the type of food they serve. You got the pub, which is typically fried foods, the Irish pub which give you the sandwiches and burgers, the wing house, the classy sports bar with overpriced food and then there's … more
Food trucks are the latest craze here in Los Angeles and it’s been my goal to try out and report back on as many food trucks as I can. First up is the Grilled Cheese Truck, which showed up for the Sweet Streets 2 opening reception outside of gallery nucleus in Alhambra, a city roughly 10 miles outside of downtown Los Angeles. Being relatively close to me, plus I was already … more
In a last minute, "Let's do something random tonight" decision, I found myself driving to the old abandoned zoo in Griffith Park. Now let's get one thing straight, Griffith Park at night freaks me out. Add that with the old zoo and the fact that there is some Haunted Hayride, yeah, I'm already shaking in my boots. Once we arrived to Griffith Park there … more

A legendary basketball rivalry taken all the way to Game 7?! What more could you ask for... This was EXCITING in every sense of the word. Of course, sitting in Section 115, Row 10, Seat 6 of the final Championship game probably heightened my experience just a tad. ;D Go Lakeshow!

No matter where you train your dog in DA, as long as they have a good trainer and are out-going, they will be happier and healthier for the expierance. I have been training my lab in agility for several years now and I firmly believe that she is benefiting greatly from this style of training. She has much less pent up energy, and has even become more obedient as a result. As an additional benefit, … more
I have followed all the televised interviews with this individual and he comes off as someone who is smug without any concern for his actions. The way he maliciously killed that promising young lady in Peru before she could reach her potential is appalling. Unfortunately the sentences available in Peru are only 15 to 35 years which means at 22, he will be young enough when he gets out … more
Do you want to have a well-behaved and relaxed dog who pays attention to your commands and is a joy to be around? One of the best ways I’ve found to do that is to teach them agility. Both of my dogs have gone through agility training after having received basic dog training and, hands down, agility training is one of the fastest ways to teach your dog to watch and listen to you. … more
LAX might not rank high in passenger satisfaction (although I would disagree) but when it comes to planespotting it is unmatched. LAX has arguably some of the best vantage points and spots to gaze, watch, identify and take photos of your favorite commercial planes. I'll share some really great spots. In-N-Out This is probably the most famous spot to … more
I hopped on the bus headed out to Chinatown last Sunday, barely able to contain my excitement at the endless records that I was about to discover or the friends that I would see or the amazingly talented DJs that I would hear or the BBQ I would devour. I was headed to my favorite event that Los Angeles offers, the Beat Swap Meet, that a few DJs and hip-hop promoters I know organize every three months. … more
