An Ideal City

Located in the heart of the south bay, Torrance California is just minutes from the beach, thirty minutes from Los Angeles, and only a couple of hours from the mountains.  Torrance  is a partially suburban, industrial, and commercial city with a medium population.  The cities demographic make up is largely diverse, and this diversity is reflected in the multicultural flare that the city tries to promote.  Torrance is a big enough city to be able to use revenue to make and maintain one of the largest malls in America, the Del Amo mall, yet small enough to value the individual over the dollar.  This respect for the resident can be seen in any city council meeting that one can attend at the city center or view over one of Torrance's public access channels.  After seeing one televised, I was very impressed with the respect and open mindedness in which officials responded to residents suggestions and complaints.

After moving from local Lawndale, I now reside in the Walteria district.  This section of Torrance is fairly quite, but can be privy to some rowdiness as I live very close to one of the cities many parks.  Ironically and unfortunately, I have had a car, a bike, and even a flag stolen from my house but never had any of these problems in my decade or so residing in Lawn dale.  I attribute this to gangs coming from outside the area to steal ( at least this is what I was told by the officers that handled my case several years ago.  Please don't get me wrong, Torrance is a safe and pleasant community to live in but one should always be aware of the dangers that lurk in even the suburbs of Los Angeles.  However, one should not overlook the many positive things that living in this city can bring.

With the current state of the economy, people our struggling to find jobs all of the nation, and this includes Torrance as well.  One positive for those searching for jobs in Torrance is the Del Amo mall.  The mall is currently expanding and will be building a new wing.  This will bring with it an influx of new jobs as several shops will be opening.  These shops will also hopefully stimulate the economy as people come in to buy whatever those individual shops are selling.  Torrance is only expanding and getting better, making it an even more desirable place to live.

The best part about living in Torrance for me is the breeze I get from neighboring Redondo Beach.  It's nice on a summer day to sit out on the porch and enjoy the briny scent from the harbor just a few miles away.  Also, the weather is usually quite sunny which is another plus that one gets from living so close to the beach.  All in all, Torrance is a great place to live and a worth will visit.

NIce to read about your hometown. Oddly enough here in Rhode Island we are also abbout a half hour from major beaches and about three hours from mountains in New Hampshire. Sounds like the recreational opportunities in both places are endless. Maybe someday I will be able to get out there.
