From Al Green to Usher, slow jams have been the favorites of so many music fans. It's sometimes the best way to express our love or simply be inspired. I hope to share reviews on the best artists, songs and albums here on Love Notes! =)
Etta James died today of leukemia in a California hospital surrounded by loved ones. I will be getting more information and writing a more detailed review of the woman whose voice is so beautifully haunting that it helped create a whole new musical genre. To be honest, you'll probably get a list out of me too, I love Etta, she was an amazing woman and talent. Etta, may you rest in peace now and … more

I was wrong about this guy. He came onto the scene in a freaking boy band, and that is always going to be a point against him. But he proved to be a great innovator in pop music, as well as a very good actor.
We attach some very negative connotations to the term "pop music." Its gotten to the point where a lot of cultural critics (a breed that ironically takes pride in not knowing anything at all about pop culture) avoid that section of the local music mart that says "pop." Honestly, it's difficult to blame them because the most popular music year in and year out is the stuff that most frequently gets … more
Pop superstar Beyonce has just unleashed her fourth studio album on the world aptly title “4”. The album was named by the fans and in our opinion this is an album for the fans. Beyonce took some time away for the spotlight to reflect on life, fame, and of course music and the result is a beautifully crafted album that is a melting pot of various influences, styles, and inspiration … more
Rolling in the Deep, soul singer Adele's number one hit single off her sophmore album, 21 and her first number one song on US charts. It is so incredibly rare that a single enjoys such success on all radio stations- from easy listening to alternative rock to rap and hip-hop to R&B and everything in between. Currently, this song has sold 3.5 million digital copies and has ruled the Billboard … more
After a brief hiatus due to my tenure with brooklynexposed.com (check out my reviews there on New York City's hottest events) I have decided to return to lunch.com for a limited edition summer series! The trick for me is to post in more than one community, so wish me luck. But I want to get this party started at my old stomping ground, music matters. So let's get cracking... The Euro-pop … more
"The Light Of The Sun" is a good new album. My favorite cut is "Shame" This is a funky tune with a good groove. Eve lends her talents rapping on this song. "Blessed" is a song where Jill counts her blessings. Having a son and parents who are all healthy and happy are indeed blessings to be thankful for. "So In Love" is a tune with a good beat. A singer named … more
I love this new album by Adele. She is twenty-two, but the way she conveys a wisdom far beyond her years when she sings. My favorite track is "One and Only". This is a soulful love song that touches me personally. I yearn for a love that Adele describes on this song "Turning Tables" is a song about a conflict between two people. This song is about trying not to get hurt emotionally. … more
The BOBBY DARIN ORIGINAL ALBUM SERIES is a great set for those who are new to Darin's music and didn't own the original albums, like myself. The set comes with Darin's first three albums (Bobby Darin, That's All, This Is Darin) and two other releases (Things & Other Things, Bobby Darin Sings Ray Charles), all from the late 50s and early 60s, making five CDs in all. … more
Stop trying to pull the wool over our eyes! In this day of slick marketing and advertising gimmicks you can pretty much call any product anything you want to and make just about any claim you care to. Unfortunately such is the case with Motown's single disc release dubbed "The Temptations: The Ultimate Collection". For any true Temptations fan will tell you that this disc … more
Goapele is one of those artists that tend to stick with you. Do you ever hear a song and it just absolutely says everything that you wish you could say in that kind of angelic voice that you yourself are far from possessing? That's exactly how I feel about the first time I heard Goapele's Closer:   … more
Sometimes I feel like I'm way behind time. I hardly ever watched Music Videos these days. I'm probably past my prime where pop music is concerned and I no longer know who's on the chart... time has certainly made its imprints on my life or you could say I've moved on to the finer things of life. No, I'm not saying music is not the finer things of life. I'm just saying I've … more

There is nothing better than listening to Jill Scott when it's raining or actually with any kind of weather. She is absolutely amazing. She started as a poet, became a singer, and then, an actress. Each song she sings, you can hear the raw emotion that she was feeling at the time she wrote the song. She doesn't rely on any of that AutoTune or harmonizing equipment because she doesn't need it. With … more
This is a great CD, with re-mastered versions of the original blues songs featured in the film, Cadillac Records. These are the real thing, blues written and performed by by Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Etta James, Little Walter, Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. And the quality is very good, thanks to remasters of old tapes laid down in the 40s, 50s and early 60s. Known at the … more

I love Adele- she's definitely one of my favorite artists of the 2000s! I fell in love with her when I heard "Chasing Pavements". Her voice reminds me of blues singers of yesteryear and she has a little edge to her voice. I've heard her called "the next Amy Winehouse" but, thankfully, she didn't choose the same path and we get to enjoy her music for more than one song.
Among his many observations that had a way of boring into your subconscious and never leaving, George Carlin once remarked that the Blues is the only musical form that requires absolute authenticity - "It's not enough to play the notes, you have to know why the notes need to be played." On this equally special and sadly neglected 1998 release, Etta James makes sure we know - that she … more

A good friend recently told me his favorite song was "Bring it on Home to Me", so I started listening to Sam Cooke's version and indeed find it quite amazing. Great vocalist and a true legend!
Because he died at such a young age we really only caught a glimpse of the enormous talent of Sam Cooke. Sam began his career as a gospel singer and spent six years years as lead singer of the legendary gospel group The Soul Stirrers. But in 1957, Sam Cooke decided to pursue a solo career and signed a recording contract with Keen records. Within a very short … more
