Ben's story begins in the seat of a Massey-Ferguson 282 tractor in the bottomlands of the Red River Valley. One day, at the age of sixteen, he had a farming accident where the tractor flipped over onto a barbed wire fence, and Ben got pinned underneath 6,000 lbs of metal, rubber, and fuel. Miraculously, he walked away that day with only a few scratches and an injured (but unbroken) back.
The next morning, Ben's breakfast tasted better than anything he'd ever tasted. He went to church with his family, but as the pastor woefully began with, "Let us remember that we are wicked and ask forgiveness for our sins," all Ben could think was, "Let's thank God that we're alive!"
Two years later, Ben discovered a way to keep that kind of excitement alive as the chords of a guitar pressed to his chest seemed to resonate through his bones. Around the same time, he discovered his singing voice while driving long, monotonous miles in his radio-less pick-up truck.
Over the next few years, Ben honed his skills performing in college bars and other venues while earning a forestry degree at Texas A&M University. Since then, Ben's path has been been strewn with adventure, music, hardship, and late nights as an inner confidence and strong will carry him through this unfinished story. (via BenSmithBand.com)
That brings us to this amazing CD! Through his life experiences, Ben has been through plenty to write about. One thing that stands out on this CD is that you can tell he isn't trying to please a record company exec, he is just being himself! The CD is full of feel good music that you tap your feet to. Every song was either written or co-written by Ben himself! Every song is equally amazing and picking only two to write about was a hard choice!
