Its very rare for me to write a negative review usually i only feel its worth my time to review if i liked it and think others will enjoy it to, this however is an exception. After being told by several reliable sources that i would like this movie i watched it, it left me wondering where i go to file a petition to get the wasted time back. This movie stars off confusing and rushed from the start when are leading happy couple make a trip to LA to celebrate the birthday of a friend who has made it in the rap game. Then we are hit with many things at once, a cheating boyfriend, an unexpected pregnancy, an unforseen move/career change....and oh ye the minor problem of alien invasion (or atleast you are left guessing that they are aliens, it is never brought up much less explained). The aliens themseleves kind of made me think that mabie the makers of The Matrix, and Resident evil series got lost on their way to work and landed on the Skyline set. They look like the "machines" of the Matrix bred with the "lickers" from Resident Evil, and mabie throw a little bit of whatever those things where that guarded the temple in Tomb Raider the Cradle of Life and there you have the Skyline aliens. The alien ships also look a little to much like the one above the white house in Independance day (the whole blue light thing was just to much for me) The plot totally looses its footing after the arrival of the aliens, there is a botched escape attempt, some death, some talk of more escape that never goes anywhere, oh yeah and then some more death. From what i gather the aliens came to LA to harvest human brains/spinal cords to be used as someting like a battery to power their species (hmmmm ive seen this concept before...oh yes thats right The Matrix!) These aliens also apparently have no real weakness they cannot be chopped up, blown up, shot down, or hit with a nuclear warhead. So in yet another dead end attempt to escape the happy couple (who are seemingly the only people still alive in LA) manage to get themselves captured after battling an alien that looks way to much like uhh a female body part (thanx woopak im glad im not the only one who thought that was a little weird) and are off to the mother ship to be harvested. It looks like the nightmare is finally over when the boyfriends brain is transfered into a Licker looking thing but no he manages to retain his humanity just in time to rush in and save his girlfriend from having an alien induced abortion.....dumb. i would like to add that even though i totally feel this movie earned the negative raiting i gave it the CGI was excellent and was very realistic. still though neg 1 stars and i would recommend this to NO ONE!

Look at the light and it controls you. The city is under attack by aliens. And it is GROSS! Half a star out of **** "Skyline" is what a casual movie-going audience would want to see out of an alien invasion flick, although it falls just a little bit short of the average film (of the like). Being one of those conspiracy guys who likes to look up at the night sky and wonder when the hell we're going to have an alien invasion, or at least be paid a visit, (we've been around for quite a while now, where's the planet warming present?) so this type of film would usually be right up my street. There is something about films that just suck the life right out of you. No I do not mean that because I went to an 11pm screening, I mean it literally sucked the life out of me. You no longer need a screenplay to make an alien invasion movie. All you need is a special effects studio, a lot of computers, and creature designers that go for all the reliable hallmarks, like flailing tentacles. You also need plenty of death and destruction, and it must all be contained within the borders of a major city - say Los Angeles or New York, because God knows an alien species prefers them to cities like Pittsburg or Chicago or Seattle or Cleveland. There is no way on earth, a movie could fail in presentation like Skyline does. Originality is not even worth talking about since Independence Day or War of the Worlds are one of the many films this movie tried to copy. What the director did not understood is that you cannot steal ideas, concepts and give orders within the total chaos you have just created. This movie appear to promise to be what the dumb film "Independence Day" should/could have been. The trailer promises earth-shattering battles and Greg Strause does know how to shoot battle scenes. It is his lack of stroytelling skills that worries me...I'll have to check this out to judge for myself. Added: I managed to see it and posted this review. Better as a rental.

I've argued with some Amazon guys who love this film and they say I have no taste. Sad, so sad. Worst sci fi film I've seen in decades.
The ending: I thought the film started to get interesting at that point but then then ended the movie! I did like the CGI effects.
Did it make sense that a nuclear blast was nearby and the guy looks out his blinds and squints because the light is bright? A real nuclear blast would have fried his eyeballs out of his head! The science was pretty weak here too. I could go on... :)
