A Virtually Unknown Gem

I just happened to catch this one on cable the other day. Jason Segel and Emily Blunt meet at New Year's Eve party. She is dressed as Princess Diana and he in a Bunny costume. The two hit it off and then in a very 'awkward" moment they propose to each other. They then go to plan their wedding.

Segel is a chef at a top San Francisco restaurant and on the verge of being named head chef. Blunt is a Brit with a large family in England and also is a psychology graduate. When she gets a nice assignment at the University of Michigan, Segel decides to give up his dream and move with Blunt to live hers in Michigan.

The couple never seems to get married and the longer they are in Michigan, Blunts grandparents start dying off. The couple can never seem to plan out a proper wedding and Segel's life keeps getting more boring. The best job he can get is at a sandwich shop while his best friend (married to Blunt's sister) got the head chef job in the San Francisco restaraunt and is starting to have a pretty large family with Blunt's sister.

I found this movie a lot of fun and there is excellent chemistry between Blunt and Segel. The supporting group is fun and everything about the movie seems to relate back to a psych experiement the group does where they provide test subjects with stale donuts. The subjects are told that if they wait, they will be delivered fresh ones. This experiment will also impact the Blunt/Segel relationship throughout the film.

The film was a bit long and that was the only thing that prevented me from rating it higher but it is a lot better than most of the mindless comedies that seem to be flooding out of Hollywood these days.

It's a Long Wait, but the Film Seems Even Longer
