Are you tired of your smaller children asking you what the day and date is, well, then it is time to get them something to help them along. If not for them, then for your own sanity. You can find these at any toy store that sells Melissa and Doug products. Everything that they make has the children's learning interest at heart. This calendar will last you for years to come, and only will cost you fifteen dollars. We have found that Toys R Us usually has an abundance of these products.

Description
This calendar comes with two sides hinged together in the middle. One side has a bunch of squares that will allow you to make any month of the year that you like. The other side will act as a storage center for all of the other pieces, 139 in all. Each piece has a built in magnet and is made of wood, that will stick to either side. The second side of this calendar is solid white in color, and you can even use a dry erase marker on this side. There is twelve little wooden markers, that spell out each month but you will only get five different year markers. Once you reach the last year you may have to look for an alternative method to put the year on the top of the board. You will also get special wooden pieces for some of the holidays and birthdays. The overall size of this board is 16" x 23" when you unfold this out and it is lying flat.

Experience
These little wooden pieces usually end up on our refrigerator more than on this calendar. Our children and grandchildren have fun for hours playing and rearranging the days of the weeks and the very colorful special day magnets. We have found that there are too many magnets to keep track of when all of the kids do come around for a visit, so we purposely put a lot of the pieces away to prevent them from falling on the floor.

This calendar has helped us with teaching our daughter the days of the week and counting. It was a real problem at first because she wanted to have all of the magnets out at the same time. We were continually finding these underneath the fridge and the dogs would love to play with these. So far, we have caught them in the nick of time and the pieces have only received some little bite marks. Save yourself the headache and put a lot of these magnets away, that way you are not always picking them up.

Conclusion
This has helped in the teaching and counting areas where we have struggled in the past. This has been very durable and can withstand some abuse. You should not let the real small kids get a hold of this because of the size of the pieces.

Thanks for the great review Harold! I really like Melissa and Doug products, this one will be very handy for homeschooling. I have my own Day-Timer calendar where I keep track of my stuff, so this will be great for my daughter so she can 'be like mommy' :)
