Unflattering but versatile

Remember those crackers you ate when you were young? They were squarish or roundish like Ritz. Well, they seem like a thing of the past and yet I recently found great uses of these cheap but versatile snacks.

First of all, as the winter approached last year, I had to content with staying indoor more. I'm lazy, I don't like waking up early dawn and taking a shower (when it's freezing cold outside; blrrrrrrr....) and going out to get breakfast! Therein comes soda crackers to the rescue!

What I found most useful and welcoming (to the taste bud as well) is with these crackers I could stock up and eat them any time I like.

Eating it on its own is a tad boring, despite the fact that it has some salt coating on it. So, what do I do?

Well, if you are like me, you'd dip them into a cup of hot coffee! They become something else when dip into coffee! I've done this more than a dozen time and I've yet gotten bored with them. I love getting some of the smaller packets (say 100g each) and eat half packet each time. They served great breakfast that way or whenever I'm hungry and try to stay clear of potato chips. These crackers still have that crunchy feel to it as long as you don't dip the entire cracker into the coffee mug! Try it, you'd be surprised how good that is! Also, these are dirt cheap, only about 10 to 20 cents each packet!

Another thing which you may also want to try is to eat them with cheese. I'm sure you've tried this before. But, to add a little more fun, get some cheese and your favorite ice cream and see how that goes. I believe they should make quite a good combo. Have fun trying, perhaps even with thin slices of carrots or celery! Kids would enjoy this quite a bit!

After seeing the recent havoc created by floods in Brisbane, Australia, I'm more careful about survival (actually, more my tummy, LOL...). I do believe we should at least stock up food (dry food especially & also canned food like tuna chunks in olive oil and sardines) and water that will last us a minimum of 3 to 7 days. We have taken convenience for granted and assumed that the ATM and the supermarkets or grocery stores will always be opened. But, what if, they don't? Like the recent crisis in Iceland and the flood in Brisbane and the earthquake in Chile. Well, these are not underdeveloped or developing countries. These are developed countries with good infrastructure. Yet, there are times when food and water are not easily accessible.

So, do yourself a favor. If not stocking up for the sake of emergency, then stock up for the fun of snacking ;-) To me, these crackers served a purpose if not two. They are versatile, cheap and tasty. They are also fun to eat!

P.S. I'm sure they are great with Mexican salsa as well. They don't have to be boring food, they are great with anything you can come up with, it's all a matter of your imagination!
