For most men there is a serious rush of pleasure and excitement that comes from an adrenaline charged situation. We live for the moments of uncertainty, the challenge of a complex task, or the moments of tension where you don't know what is going to happen in the next moment. For many men, Fight Club is one of the greatest concept movies that unfortunately has no real truth in reality, but is a seriously powerful and wonderful idea that would catch on quick.
Essentially, the movie is about a couple of guys that get together and create an underground fight club. The idea of the club is that all men need some means of releasing aggression, unfortunately culture dictates that the release of aggression is wrong and we must suppress it. With fight club, men are allowed to get together in a safe environment, pull off their tie, throw off their suit coat and fight with random people. The idea isn't to kill the other person, the idea is to fight until you feel better. You don't have to be a professional fighter, just the average guy trying to release the stress of your day.
The Fight Club however becomes so much more than just a club. It becomes something more like a cult as the members begin living in the same house, doing chores, performing terrorist-like attacks locally. The problem is that because they control the majority of the average men, the city has very little that they can do to control the problems that the Fight Club creates so they are able to get away with everything that they do.
Eventually, the main character realizes that he and his founding partner are nothing more than one in the same person. He created this alter ego in order to find escape for his ultimately boring existance. This of course creates some internal struggles as he realizes that all of the negatives and evils were really done by him and not his partner.
The acting is great throughout the movie. For the type of movie that it was, the characters truly looked as if they were part of the club. Even the extras seemed to fit into the club and operate in the exact manner I would expect those operating in those environments would operate. I think a lot of the acting had to do with the excellent scripting and casting. The scripts created very smooth dialogue between the different characters, really bringing the movie to life. A lot of what was said throughout the movie really built it up and started foreshadowing that you only realize at the end of the movie.
The overall concept of the movie was excellent. It was a very well rounded movie that featured an excellent cast of characters, great writing, and an awesome plot. The movie flowed incredibly well from beginning to end and really built up each and every aspect of the movie. You definitely find yourself on the edge of your seat as you wait to see what is going to happen next.
If nothing else, this is a great guy movie. This is one of those movies that you sit back with the guys and watch as a group while drinking beer and eating nachos. This is most definitely not a movie that you watch with your lady. I know this is one of my favorite late night movies that I watch prior to going to bed.
But if you want an excellent movie, this is definitely the way to go, you won't be disappointed by any stretch of the imagination.
