Shakira Mebarak Ripoll was born in the port city of Barranquilla, (in northern Colombia), on February 2, 1977. She is the daughter of a Lebanese- American, Mebarak Chadid, and his Colombian wife, (of Spanish-Italian stock, named Nidya Del Carmen Ripoll). Her genealogy ensured a multicultural inheritance.
