Vitas - The Star

  • Aug 9, 2009
Vitas IS Russian, 28, singer, composer and actor.
Guess where I found out about him?
Yes, in China. No, not Russia but China. He's as famous as any Chinese singer, if not even more so.

Sometimes I'm surprised at the type of music that appeals to audiences from different culture. But then again, perhaps I shouldn't be. Afterall, music transcends language, culture and time (age). It just simply is. The music of Vitas? Well, I love it. Not sure if it's everyone's cup of tea, but to my surprise, many Chinese in mainland China love it too.

Music is music... either you like it or you don't. So, if you haven't heard his music and vocal before, check it out on Youtube. There are plenty of selection from this singer.

My personal favorites are:

I was very surprised to find a review of Vitas on Lunch to say the least! I am from Russia, but i've only seen him on TV. I didn't know his name was Vitaliy, that is actually my husbands name! I like your List of Inspirational Musicians, I certainly agree with you on Andrea Bocelli. I've seen him perform live, it was amazing! I has goosebumps.

Vitas is unique and I love operatic pop singers. He's very hot in China for the last couple of years and I happen to see him on TV when I was there. I like many European artists as well. The problem with living in the U.S. is that one seldom comes across other foreign talents. Emma Shapplin is another great one. I wrote a few reviews on singers like Il DivoPatrizio Buanne & Josh Groban. Also the music of Secret Garden & Omar Akram. Check them out, I think you might like them. If you love Andrea Bocelli, did you know he sang a duet with Hayley D. Westenra too and that's a great song?! Hayley has a lovely voice. I especially love the song Pokarekare Ana!

Because of his fame on the Internet, he is sometimes known as Bumac or Bumac Vitas in English (his name inCyrillic cursive, Витас, "Витас", appears identical to English Bumac, "Bumac").

His 2000 song, "Opera No. 2" ("Opera #2"; released as a single in 2001)[1] has been forwarded frequently via the Internet, which accounts for much of his worldwide recognition.[2] His eclectic pop music is often difficult to categorise, incorporating elements of technodanceclassical, jazz, and folk music.[3][4] He designs his own stage costumes.[5][6] DIVA (ДИВА) is the name of the band that accompanies Vitas during his concerts.[7]

Vitas has achieved much of his fame through Russian television, and since 2005 his career has advanced into Asian markets.[8] He has signed with entertainment labels such as Universal which distributes his music in Taiwan, and he has toured extensively in China[2] and several other countries.[9] He has performed duets with many other singers ...
