City of Bones (Mortal Instruments)
I was utterly disappointed with this book. With all the hype built up about it with the film and fandom I expected more. The lead character,Clary, is extremely boring, the story line never really takes off and the supporting characters, who you could come to like, barely get enough credit.    There are 5 more books, but I am struggling to get through the second one.    …

Sucks to Be Me: The All-True Confessions of Mina
Pauley–previously known for her own book review site–has created a very interesting premise here: Mina Hamilton is having a hard enough time with high school and being seventeen in general when things get even more complicated. Mina already knew her parents were vampires. She has, in fact, known that for all of her life. What she didn't know until recently was that she would have to …

Shiver
Years ago, when Grace was attacked by wolves, Sam saved her. He has been a presence in Grace's life ever since always lurking on the periphery each winter in Mercy Falls, watching her, protecting her.      Even though they have never spoken.      Sam has been watching Grace for years, waiting for her, making sure she was safe. Even when he couldn't remember …

Wings
Wings (2009) is Aprilynne Pike‘s debut novel. The first thing to know about it is that the idea has been thrown around that Wings might possibly be the next Twilight. I have my own varied and complex issues with Twilight but I can see the connection. The tone, protagonist, and a lot of other things are very different. But the general "vibe" of the two books are strikingly similar. …

Dracula (first edition)
The character of Dracula is depicted as a blood-thirsty vampire. The opening scene is priceless.   An old time carriage is seen traversing a winding road until reaching the infamous castle   where Count Dracula resides. En route, the neighboring villagers warn the travelers of the dangers   inherent in the neighborhood of Dracula's Castle.      …

Hey Everyone, can I be a wee bit cheeky and suggest that if you love paranormal fiction to give my book a go - 'The Hunted' - Truly a book you can sink your teeth into!
Hi Everyone,      I'm a new author to Lunch and so far have really enjoyed reading everyone's reviews on all the books and TV shows that I'm particularly fond of. I would be really appreciative if those of you that are keen or the vampire/werewolf genre would take a look at my book and let me know what you think.   If you'd like more information you can …

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
This is a book that I've been wanting to re-read for a long time. From what I recall, it was haunting, moving, and engaging. I read it quickly, and to some degree, I regret that fact because there are many details that I can't remember. I recommend people pass on the film and read the book instead. It's guaranteed to be 100x better.

Lord of Misrule (Morganville Vampires, Book 5)
I will be the first to say that thus far this series was a little dry and boring compared to others out there. The drama and action are really stepped up 100% in this book where the town of Morganville is ripping its self apart between two vampire factions and the human mobs. This book holds tons of twists and turns and some very compelling chapters that make you want to read on where the previous …

Feast of Fools (Morganville Vampires, Book 4)
This one was a little better than the last one, the series seems to improve in baby steps with every book. But i think if i wasnt stuck on a military base with a very limited library i most likely wouldnt have made it this far into this series.

Glass Houses (Morganville Vampires, Book 1)
This isnt the most captivating or entertaining vampire series out there but what it looses in quality it makes up for in interesting plot twists. The first books a little dry up until the end where it takes some interesting turns, ride it out to the end, it proves its self worthy of progressing to the sexond book.

The Dead Girls' Dance (The Morganville Vampires,
A minor improvement over the first book. More action and the story line seems to flow more smoothly, and of course i love the idea of a goth party with all the attendants go dressed as zombies and vampires!
This is book number 4 in the Anita Blake series, and once again Hamilton delivers a riviting story. Its Anitas slow season for zombie raising so this book focuses more on her life outside of her official job. The romance between Anita and Richard is going on strongly, much to my dismay. That is until Anita finds herself at a meeting gone badly at the Lunatic Cafe, an establishment owned and operated …
READERS BE WARNED...SPOILERS AHEAD! I have to say that this is my favorite Anita Blake book in the series yet. Halloween is fast aproaching, and of course that would be Anitas busy season, so along with being totally overworked Anita is hard at work on a string of murders being committed by a group of rouge vampires. This book has alot more action than the previous two. Anita is being threatened by …
The first Anita Blake novel had some icky moments in it, i mean the girl raises the dead for a living, so obviously theres some gross things going on there. In this book Anita is being pushed to her limit from all angles. Shes got jean-claude hovering over her shoulder, shes being pressured at work to do some very abnormal things, and not to mention shes solving a very grusome case of serial murders …
Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter:
I decided to start reading this series for two reasons, one being that i loved the Merry Gentery series so much, and two being when Borders went under i got like half of the series for about $2 a peice so i figured even if it sucked i wouldnt be out a ton of money. Book #1, Guilty Pleasures had been sitting on my shelf kind of forgotten, i know it sounds weird but if you saw how many books i have …

Stardust (novel)
If you've only seen the film, Stardust the book (widely available as both a graphic novel and a novel) is quite different in tone. The story is a creatively dark fantasy adventure for adults (there is some gruesome violence, a couple instances of sex, and brief strong language) that tells a fairly bittersweet story of romance and love. The main characters all experience a great deal of hardship …
reviewed Silence of the Lambs. March 22, 2011
I read this book on a plane on my way to Desert Shield. I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed the movie adaptation of the book but nothing is better then the book. Harris has a way of writing especially in this book that made it a easy read. I can't tell you how much I would recommend this book to some that has never read Thomas Harris before. Well at least this book in particular. No spoiler alert here …

Hush, Hush
Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick (2009)      I just couldn't get into this book, I wanted to but it just wasn't happening.      Mostly it's my fault: I'm burnt out on paranormal romances and I have my own problems with angel stories.      But it's also a little bit the books fault because I'm tired of books with smart, …
