An excellent pre-twilight vampire series!
This is a combination of books one and two of L.J. Smith's series entitled The Vampire Diaries. The name may ring a bell since it has recently been picked up by CW as a TV series. I havn't actually seen the show so please feel free to correct me if i am wrong but from what i can tell from the previews and still photos of the cast it really does not follow the story being told in the books. the author has made her vampires different than the classical myth, but they are interesting well developed characters, and a little drama and suspence to go along with it.

If you like the tv series, don't read the book. The characters are very opposite of who they are on tv. I love the tv series a lot more than the book.

The Awakening - Book 1
Novel: Vampire Academy: The Awakening (Vol 1) Author: L.J. Smith Short summary: Boy is a vampire. Girl is a prom queen (literally). They fall in love. His past comes back to haunt them. Chaos ensues.    With the CW constantly playing commercials for the new Vampire Diaries, I figured I'd go out and get the book. How bad could it be, right? Right?   Pretty bad, it turns out.  I'm not going to say it's awful, because it’s not, but it’s just…not very good.  …
