The fourth book in the "Twilight Saga" by Stephenie Meyer.
< read all 71 reviews This book, and the series as a whole, is awful. The writing is completely juvenile, and while I realize it is a pre-teen targeted book, I still think that the quality of writing is sub par. I have read books designed for a younger audience, both fiction and non, and I think that JK Rowling and many others set a better example for quality writing.
While I realize that vampires are unrealistic, Stephanie Meier took fantasy and pushed it past the point of semi-believable make-believe to an “are you kidding me” feeling. The last book in the series was less boring than the first three, but was the most outlandish storyline. I prefer that fiction/fantasy books have at least a shred of reality to them. There was nothing in this book to connect a real person to the story. There was no way to relate to anything happening in these books.
I have only seen one of the movies, and I’m not planning to see the rest. The only reason I even read through the first three books to the last is because of how many people told me the last book is the best. The only good thing I can say about the last book is that it provided an end to the awful series!
Vampires, warewolves, humans…I was surprised that the Mermaids didn’t rise out of the river and join in the festivities. While vampires and warewolves are “really” enemies in folklore, Meier completely destroys any connection to known mythology with her fluffy writing. I was completely disgusted by this series, and cannot honestly find one good thing to say about the book.
