Jennifer Crusie is an excellent story teller, and consistently delivers a great beach book. This one adds a ghost story to the formula for something with a bit more depth, but just as much fun as her usual mix.
Andie has been divorced for a decade and is getting ready to remarry when her ex asks her a favor: to go ride herd on a couple of difficult kids at a house that just may be haunted. Andie's adventures, the supporting cast, and the process of figuring out the haunting (or is it something more sinister?) make this book a page-turner.
It's well written, with characters deep enough to make us care, but it's still very light reading -- perfect for travel, a cozy winter read in front of the fire, or a lazy summer afternoon.
Andie Miller hasn't had contact with her ex-husband in ten years, except to receive her monthly alimony check, which she never wanted and didn't cash. A sweetly flavored, light, romantic read that left me smiling and interested in reading Crusie's other works. Maybe This Time pairs a delightful heroine with cute, but troubled kids, a haunted mansion, entertaining secondary characters and a sexy and stoic hero that had my mouth watering. The novel kept me guessing with the underlying mystery and engrossed in the story. Overall it was original and fast-paced, gripping from page to page. I highly recommend Maybe This Time.
