If you're new to Janet Evanovich's novels, you'll probably enjoy Wicked Appetite, the first in her "new" series. Set in Salem, MA, this book is full of eccentric, sometimes wacky characters, an outlandish plot, a hapless leading woman attracted to the world's sexiest man, and an evil villain. On the other hand, if you're familiar with Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, you've seen nearly all of this before, numerous times. In Wicked Appetite, pastry chef Lizzie learns that she has a secret power, the ability to differentiate magical amulets from ordinary ones. Against her will, at least initially, she joins forces with Diesel, who has more dynamic abilities. Together they set out to track down a few of the powerful sort of amulets and foil the dastardly intentions of Diesel's cousin, Gerewolf Grimoire, who intends to rule the world. Between bouts of danger and narrow escapes, Liz bakes cupcakes, hundreds and hundreds of them. And the chemistry between Diesel and Liz intensifies. This rather simplistic plot is animated by lots of slapstick, and a few genuinely funny moments. In a few scenes, the cat and the monkey nearly steal the show. But this book is essentially same old, same old, with lots of food, zaniness, and sexual innuendo.

Stephanie Plum more than sates my appetite for Janet Evanovich. I don't think I'll be indulging in any cupcakes. Nice review, Linda.

Lizzy Tucker's life finally seems to be back on track. She has a cute nose, a job she loves baking cupcakes, and she just inherited a lovely new house in Marblehead near Salem, Massachusetts. Sure, the house is all saggy and needs a new foundation and no one is eager to publish her cookbook. But things are normal. And normal is good.      Normal is good while it lasts, anyway.      Things go sideways when a man named Gerwulf Grimooire shows up at Lizzy's …

Review courtesy of AllThingsUrbanFantasy.[...]     It's impossible to read a Janet Evanovich book without smiling. The woman knows how to write funny, engaging characters, throw them into outlandish situations that always leave me wanting more. I'm a huge fan of her Stephanie Plum series (including the supernaturally spiced Between-the-Numbers novellas that this new series is based on) and have wondered for years what a full length paranormal novel from Evanovich would be like. …

About this book

Wiki

Life in Marblehead has had a pleasant predictability, until Diesel arrives. Rumor has it that a collection of priceless ancient relics representing the Seven Deadly Sins have made their way to Boston’s North Shore. Partnered with pastry chef Lizzie Tucker, Diesel bullies and charms his way through historic Salem to track them down—and his criminal mastermind cousin Gerewulf Grimorie. The black-haired, black-hearted Wulf is on the hunt for the relic representing gluttony. Caught in a race against time, Diesel and Lizzie soon find out that more isn’t always better, as they battle Wulf and the first of the deadly sins. With delectable characters and non-stop thrills that have made Janet Evanovich a household name, Wicked Appetite will leave you hungry for more.
