Max Brenner is technically a chocolatier, who specializes in the nuanced flavors of chocolate rather than in the complexities of pastries. However, for pastry lovers who have an appreciation for chocolate, Max Brenner will fully satisfy. When I visited Sydney, Australia last summer, my Australian friends insisted that I had to sample the chocolaty goodness produced by the Bald Man. And clearly since I visited the Westfield Paramatta location on three separate occasions during my month long stay, the chocolatier never disappointed. Indeed, the consistently brisk business they were doing every time I passed by the location did a lot to convince me that I would be missing out if I bypassed the experience.My Aussie friend recommended the Tutti Frutti Waffles, and since it was a pretty large serving, I shared it with my sister. It consisted of two Belgin waffles topped with strawberries, bananas (I opted to leave these off and saved some money!), a scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and, of course, milk chocolate sauce.
The waffles were a perfect golden brown, light and fluffy, the strawberries were neither too sweet, nor too tart, and the ice-cream as sweet and creamy as one would expect. The chocolate was creamy, smooth, and beyond delicious. I was most impressed by the fact that the waffles weren't drenched in the luxurious chocolate sauce. They drizzled the chocolate on the waffles with a rather light hand, but I appreciated the restraint. No ingredient overpowered another. I did notice that when I ordered the waffles on another visit, they charged me for the bananas. This inconsistency was a bit surprising, but the difference in price didn't break the bank.
I also sampled the chocolate fondue, which was extremely divine. Marshmallows, banana bread, and strawberries were gathered for dipping into dark chocolate and milk chocolate bowls. Again, everything went well together. Overall, it was a great experience. The staff was friendly and efficient. The atmosphere was very relaxed, and specifically "Max Brenner" with beautifully scarred wooden tables and benches, numerous displays of fresh and packaged confections, and various contraptions specifically designed for the creation of amazing chocolate delights. I highly recommend stopping in at a Max Brenner near you!

Holy my gosh, Anu, that waffle dish sounds AMAZING. I'm a huge food lover (I run the Gourmand community afterall), so your review got me all excited! I had to look them up after reading your review and I'm happy to report that one is opening up in Las Vegas, my most likely spot to visit them out of all of their locations. Thanks for sharing! I'm really looking forward to checking out Max Brenner! :)

Max Fichtman is no longer associated with Max Brenner. Since 2001, the company has become a part of Strauss Group.
