I live in Florida, but you'd never know it from the perfect mushroom-pale library tan.

Vibram Fivefingers Classic
I'm a reluctant athlete on my best days - things have gone south, the joints have been abused, Ibuprofen has become Vitamin I, etc.  Grinding out a couple of miles on a treadmill or elliptical trainer, …
reviewed Blindsight by Peter Watts. February 28, 2010
Peter Watts is brilliant, and he's not too humble to tackle a theme that deserves his insights.  "Blindsight" takes the classic "first contact with aliens" story onto a whole …

House of Cards
American TV, for all the channel choices, has reached a pretty low ebb.  We've got loads of trashy "reality" filler (with some notably bright exceptions on the Discovery Channel), tired …

Quentin Tarantino hits a cul-de-sac in his career
There's a lot to be said for Quentin Tarantino's style of Mixmaster film-making, but not all of it's good.  Case in point - "Inglorious Basterds".        Where …

I moved to Florida with my husband a couple of years ago from the frozen, jobless wastes of the Detroit area. So here we are in the humid, jobless wastes of south Florida... same suburban sprawl with less culture and crazier traffic... Netflix, a good bar with Belgian beers, and a few new friends tend to keep me close to sanity. Sorry to hear that you've been afflicted with Florida for a while. I'm happy to run across someone else with eclectic film tastes - I'm an inveterate film festival addict spawned in Ann Arbor, and was delighted with your reviews. Thank you!

Oh did you have the misfortune to be born in Florida or were you dragged there as I was at a tender age? I know that now it's more common to have been born there than not, but nsatill it's none the less tragic.
