This horror/comedy kind of take-off on Night of the Living Dead was surprisingly good. It goes under the assumption that the Night of the Living Dead movie was based on a true happening. Except it really was a failed top-secret government experiment.

As this whole thing is explained to two unsuspecting young men, they accidently release the top secret gas that starts to animate all dead things. The dead come walking demanding "brains." In this one it seems it is impossible to totally kill any of these re-animated dead. Even dismember them, the individual body parts keep coming looking for brains.
Rather than the slow scarry looking creatures from the Romero flicks, these creatures can move just as quickly as living people, can talk, and in many cases are humorous looking.
The humor is so well done that it never feels corny.

This is the only one in the franchise I really, really, like. The third one was ok at best, but 2,4, and 5 can just burn.

I liked this version. It was made by 2 of Romero's partners who went off on their on and joined up with Dan O'Bannon. Using the original film as a reference point was genius.

I remember laughing out loud several times during the film. Had that great horror humor like American Werewolf in London. James Karen was excellent in it.

The casting was great in that flick, especially James Karen. I liked Clu Gulager too. And the guy who ran the mortuary, I can never remember his name.

The Return of the Living Dead - Brrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaainnnssss. The most memorable line in cult cinema.
Two workers at a medical supply warehouse located in Louisville Kentucky, allows their curiosity to get the better of them. The Army crossed their shipping orders and delivered canisters containing dead bodies, with a lethal chemical called 245 Trioxin to their warehouse. Return of the Living Dead was a spoof/homage and sequel to the zombie genre and Night of the Living Dead. A couple of workers in a medical supply warehouse are fooling around and "accidentally" open an old oil drum that was holding a nasty looking cadaver. "Over the top" doesn't even begin to describe this film. It's a rare movie that works as a satire of a beloved genre (NIGHT & DAWN OF THE DEAD) and stands more or less alone as a credible horror movie on its own.
